I want to load some 180 gr.NPs for my 30-06,I had planned on using Re. 22 but recently I heard that it is very temp. sensitive.So what would be a good choice of powder thats not temp. sensitive?

Either of the aforementioned powders and if that doesn't seem to do the trick try some AA3100.

I shot some loads that I reloaded and chronied in July and shot the same loads this weekend.

RL17 is another one worth a try, in addition to RL22, H-4831, and H-4350.

RL22 is only relatively temp sensative and it depends upon a lot of different factors.

We have chewed this one around before. The one data point I have not seen is manufacture dates of the lots in question. I am not at all doubting the velocity changes some of our members have recorded with RL22 between hot and cold weather.

My suspicion is that Alliant has at least somewhat temperature desensitized RL22 over time. I know that some of our members tested in the 1990s and showed some significant variations. Some other members tested more recently and showed little variation. To start to draw some conclusions we would need to know the dates of manufacture.

As for me, my 30-06's two a favorite loads are either Sierra 180 SBTs or 200gr Nosler Partitions pushed with a stiff dose of RL22 and CCI 200s.

FWIW the I have tested RL22 recently and came up with the same results as before. some people will test the powder on a 70 degree day and then test it on a 38 degree day and say that there was no or little loss. The thing that I have found with powders that is kind of weird is that they are all a little temp resistant. For some reason when tests are ran you do not notice much velocity change until you get down below the freezing point. Once you get below freezing expecially below 20* you will see a major difference between temp sensitive and non temp sensitive.

My 30-06 loves RL22 and I use it in 15-deg to 100-deg no issues! As said above, use it!!!!

You can use it all you want but if you are telling me that you never lost any velocity between 100 and 15 degrees I would have to say that you did not test it at those temps.

Dont get me wrong everything will still go bang but there is loss of velocity. There is nothing wrong with that, and at the ranges where 90% of hunting shots are taken there will be no issue with the ammount of loss of velocity, however if you are doing long range shooting or a long range hunting opportunity presents itself then you will notice the difference i promise

Haven't tried Rel 22, H-4350 seems to work well. But, you might just try some Ramshot Hunter. Temps do not seem to bother Hunter at all. Tom

I'd give H4350 a try.

When I tested RL-22 in my 270 with 150gr NP's at 80+ degrees vs single digits, I lost close to 100fps and my ES increased significantly.
