A friend told me that CZ is going to start chambering rifles in 404 Jeffery some time next year. Does anyone know if this is true? If so, do you know what action they'll be using? Will it by chance be the MRC 1999? Thanks in advance. RB

Probably they will use the CZ 550 action. Already make it in three sizes. 06', 375, and 416 Rigby bolt faces.

What does it mean when the primers fall out of the case?

This might could force me to buy a NIB rifle, for the first time in more than 20 years...

And I just acquired a 3X Leuppie with a post reticle Coincidence? or fate ?

RB, I just received a catalog from CZ!!! It says that in 2005 they will introduce the 17 Mach 2, .204 ruger, and Safari Classics chambered in .404 Jeffery, .450 Rigby, and the .505 Gibbs

CZ already has the HM2 out and in stores ... looked at one the other day at one of the local shoppes. $328 with the heavy barrel. Not to shabby I guess. I really didn't like the trigger guard though.

Ralphbeagle,

What I have heard is the full-size or magnum length if you prefer 550 action (formerly the BRNO M602). You can build a .404 Jeff on a standard action, but you have to do something about the magazine box.

The more interesting question is where will you get ammo?

The 10.75X73 (and .404 Jeffery) is a CIP standard, but not yet a SAAMI standard.

I shot a (belongs to vbshootinrange) CZ in 17 Mach II on Saturday! It was really, sweet. Neat little groups, no recoil.

smacarac,

10.75 mm or .423".

You would shoot dangerous game with it, so big bears in North America.

The nominal bullet diameter of the .404 Jeffery is .423. Since brass and bullets are at least as available as some I shoot (9.3x57 comes to mind), I'll reload for it.

I would shoot anything in North America with it that I felt like shooting... . A 325 or 350 grain bullet at 2000 fps or so would work just dandy for elk, moose, caribou, etc. Or deer if I felt like it. If I wanted to get serious with the furry face-biters, then I could move up to a 400 gr bullet at 2200-2400 fps. This power level will stop anything on any continent, at least until someone discovers a remnant T-Rex population, which is sorta unlikely in my part of the world.

This is some of the best "new rifle" news I've seen in a long time... !

Got my '05 CZ catalog in the mail today. In the section on the new Safari Classics they state:

"The .450 Rigby was originally developed for double rifles and has been in use for over a century now."

Hello! This ain't the .450 Nitro! The .450 Rigby is a very recent developement specifically for magazine rifles. I applaud CZ for chambering for the .404, .450 & .505 but they should at least get their facts straight. I also don't see enough difference in the Classic and the standard Safari to justify the price. I realize it'll be a special order item but I sure wish the .404 was offered in the much more affordable model!
