My son has shot two does in the last week that both had manes. Any of you guys familier with this trait? reflex264

Never even heard of a deer with a mane.Got any pictures?

I shot a buck in GA last year with a mane. the taxidermist said he gets 3-4 per year with manes. just got it back, looks really cool.

I have seen one with a mane. Big old swamp buch that dressed over 220lbs. The mane was about 4-6 inches tall and dark. Big 12 pointer. Thats the only one I have ever seen.

In the Hartford TV ads, they used "Lawrence the elk".

and I always thought that was a red stag.

I've only seen one with a mane. A local bow hunter killed it a few years back and had it mounted.

mtmisfit, I'm with you! The Hartford stag is NOT an elk. I'd call it a red deer stag too.
