Bart, you don't get around much. I've heard of a couple deer with manes.
Question: Were these deer unusually large and have saddles on their back???
Just kidding.

I have heard people speak of deer with manes, but 'round here we call 'em goats.

I have seen one with a mane. Big old swamp buch that dressed over 220lbs. The mane was about 4-6 inches tall and dark. Big 12 pointer. Thats the only one I have ever seen.

The deer in the Hartford insurance advertisement has a mane. In the Hartford TV ads, they used "Lawrence the elk". "Trained by Steve Martin (not the comedian) the Hartford Stag wandered through the commercials as an announcer spouted the praises of Hartford Insurance. Lawrence the Elk worked on the reward system. His favorite treat was an oat and barley mix. " Advertising Mascots --Bob

I will post a picture later. I have a digital photo that doesn't show it that good. I do have a 35mm photo I have to put in the computer that should show it better. reflex264

Here is a picture but the mane is barely visable. When I get the 35mm developed I'll have a better picture. reflex264

I've only seen one with a mane. A local bow hunter killed it a few years back and had it mounted.

mtmisfit, I'm with you! The Hartford stag is NOT an elk. I'd call it a red deer stag too.
