It does seem strange that they think a 26" barrel is needed with their own calibers in other models, but not with the Vanguard.

NO, I dont think that is their "point" at all. You want a weatherby 257 mag, but dont want to pop out 1300 to 5 thous dollars, here is our Vanguard in one with a 24 inch barrel. Your choice, it really is that simple. What little I would loose in velocity, I dont care. Especially since, you know, if you have to shoot heavy for caliber bullets in it, you have the horsepower with the 257 wby cartridge. Realistically, you are only going to loose 20-30 FPS per inch in this cartridge, it isnt a big deal to me.

So those extra 2" of barrel are gonna cost another $500?? (or more?) I find it a valid and interesting question. Me thinks it is a way for Roy to entice us to buy the MkV to squeeze every last little bit out of the cartridge.

Regardless, the Vangard is an idea (although its been around for awhile) that is long over due and allows many to get into a damn fine rifle in a damn fine cartridge for modest moola. As I think Aggiedog will be more than happy to attest to.
