The last I knew dealer cost of a new #1 was $758.95. My general rule of thumb is that a used item is worth about 75-80% of a new one. Applying that leads me to believe that Big Redhead is right on with his estimation.
The only way I'd pay more than $600 for a used #1 is if it were something special. i.e: outstanding wood, rare chambering, pre-prefix, etc.

Last gun show someone had a late #1, used. When I flipped the tag over I stopped reading after the dollar sign and the nine following it.

A lot depends on the wood. Early #1s were noted for coming through with 4X wood whereas today's are usually plain planks. If you are a "wood nut" as I am, I might pay more than current retail for a minty Henry style one with matching incredible wood, such as this discontinued 375 77 I just bought that you will never see a Hawkeye to equal.

I recently sold a Liberty #1B in .270, excellent shape with good wood, for $825, FWIW. A few weeks ago a similar rifle brought about the same on GB.

Most No.1's in my area, regardless of caliber or model, run in the $425-$525 area, if in good shape wood/metal wise.
600...........it would have to be in fine shape and very, very nice wood. Then for me, probably not; as the No.1's are too prevalent and do not move well.

I agree oldman1942.If the wood nice on a Ruger M77 or No.1 I'll pay full retail or more.

Old man , isn't that a picture of a Ruger Magnum Safari model? A Hawkeye can't be equal in the wood, because yours is a Circassian stock if I'm correct. Just sayin' thats all.

It's not the wood species used really.. It's the MODEL of rifle. The Hawkeye is the replacement for the STANDARD grade of Ruger m77 MKII bolt gun. The Ruger in Oldman's post is the M77 Safari Magnum. They never wholesesaled for less than $1,100 even TEN YEARS AGO..They have always cost about TWICE as much as a standard grade No 1. So comparing one to a standard grade Hawkeye stock is like comparing a Standard m70 to a Super grade m70..(and being a real dikhead in the process.)

It's the Ruger Express Rifle. And yes, it came with high grade Circassian walnut, hardly the equal of a standard grade Model 77. They sold for a little over $1K US when they were still cataloged.
I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass. And I'm all out of bubblegum. I do tend to fit in well wherever I go in person. The campfire is the most outside exposure I get. No TV, no newspaper.
