Howdy all.
Been looking around for a custom hunting rifle and thinking about building one, here's my list of parts, what's ya'll thoughts on this???????
Thinking about buying the action and sending it to hart to marry them up.
Stiller predator action, maybe tack 30
Hart barrel light contour .308rem
shilen trigger
mcmillian edge stock.
Don't know on bottom metal can't make up my mind.

Has anyone built somthing similiar if so was it worth it????
Thx

I like it. I've owned a couple Stillers, and have another on the way. Good choice. One thing - for a lightweight hunting rig I would suggest a Stiller Predator, as the mount holes allow the use of Remington bases (Remington front bases for front and rear, as the rear bridge is rounded on the stiller). This provide more lightweight mounting options than the Stiller rail that must run on the Tac 30. Plus, the predator knob is a bit more "hunting-ish".

Finally, the predator comes ready to install a Wyatt's extended mag box in case you want to run long bullets.

I like the plan a lot! I was going to say "Tac 30", but I didn't realize that you had to run the rail. I say skip the bottom metal and go ADL config all the way!

I just did a 7-08 on a Tac-30. #3 Brux S/S @ 23". PTG bottom metal, Remington CDL B&C stock. Cant comment on accuracy yet as the stock work is still ongoing. Looks damn good though. I personally like the rail. Unlimited possibilities on scope mounting. Btw, Jim Borden did the metal work and our own Eddie Fosnaugh applied a drop dead georgous cera kote. Tim Claunch is doing the stock work.

My reason for going Tac 30. The predator isnt offered with a std rem box and i had no use for that funny feeling longer bolt cycle that comes with the extended box set up

I have both actions and for the same money, this is much better quality than the Predator.

Not exactly like your specs {but close}. Mine will be a Robert Gradous .308win with a Surgeon RSR, Broughton barrel, shilen trigger, Mcmillan classic.

Sent you a PM Killit.

Thanks for the heads up on the surgeon action option.

Didn't know about that one and it looks good.

Your recipe for your rifle sounds awesome too!!!

Thanks again

Really wish Surgeon made a lefthand model. For that kind of price, it is a great starting point for a custom.

i agree on the surgeon over the predator as well. If I build another rifle, it will be on the surgeon RSR

I don't understand the post "why not just go directly to the source"...DEFIANCE MACHINE?

That's not a source for a Surgeon RSR action. I noticed that defiance machine is a lot more expensive after the options if I read the price list correctly, assuming it isn't in the same price league. I categorize it in the over $1000 after options that are standard on other manufactures from what I see.

Defiance machine is actions made by Glen Harrison and I had one built 2 yrs ago. I do not think you can find a better action than Glen's, but get ready to pay a few hundred bucks over the RSR.

Ill take the RSR and put the few hundred toward scope quality.
