So if I can buy an unfired youth model in 243 for $349 should I do it? Looks to be a 20" pencil tube and with an Edge should be a dream for packing or truck coyote use.

The 700 youth has a standard sporter barrels but cut to 20". In an EDGE, it would be a great coyote rifle.

A 7 Youth or a 700 Youth?
Either way, $349 OTD would be an easy choice for me.
The older 7 Youths that I've bought for the actions had very light contour 18.5" barrels, while the 700 ADL Youths had standard countour 20" barrels, both styles had open sights.

I'm really liking my 600 with a douglas #2 at 19"....I wanted 20 but somehow ended up with 19 go figure....bedded into a Mickey Mt. Rifle. No idea on weight and optics not mounted as of yet which will determine balance somewhat. I like just a touch more weight in a short barrel and could easily live with a #3.

It is definitely a 7. I'll buy it and if I change my mind later someone can have it for what I am paying for it.
Waiting on background check. It has a 20" thin barrel in 243. Has rifle sights and a hardwood youth stock. May leave it as is for a while and let kids borrow it. Don't have a 243 right now so it fills a gap. Those Model Sevens are darn nice though. $349 plus tax seems fair enough for a donor even.

Didn't mean to hijack the thread. It was a Model 7 from a Sports Authority near me. At that price I had to buy it. Some great build ideas on here. 260, 7mm-08, 250 Savage, 6.5x47 lapua, 358, even 243.

I'm building one right now (in a 260AI). I went with a #3 Rock Creek fluted barrel, cut at 23". I put it into a Basner stock and had to open the barrel channel quite a bit to get the #3 in and free floated. Had some milling and fluting work done with the action and bolt and put in a Tubbs Speedlock firing pin assembly to reduce a bit more weight. With Talley lightweight rings, I'm at 6lbs 2 oz. I don't have the scope yet so I can't say exactly how it will balance, but I like it so far and think it will work out well. I still need to get it Cerakoted and will post some pics when it is done.
