Everything you now do is something you have chosen to do. Some people don't want to believe that. But if you're over age twenty-one, your life is what you're making of it. To change your life, you need to change your priorities.

Just wanted to point out that the forstock does not have correct checkering for a T model. It does look correct for a 1950+ R or 1955+ F model. No serial number on the forstock leads us to believe it may not be original.

Ya Randy but as Rick said, back when this rifle was being made they had a bunch of T stocks left over. As they usually did they used up old stock, like this T forearm and just checkered it with that style of checkering. The fore arm doesn't beavertail out like an R.

Here is a little more data for you:
Savage moved from Utica late 1946, last serial in the 4476xx range. Restarted at 500,000 in 1947. Just going through some of my numbers and came up with this? 46XXXX 1946 EG, thats all that I had written down. Also just found a model EG in 300 Sav 435XXX, D&T'd and sling studs but for $300 Canadian, it would be a nice shooter.

Just posted a letter out on this rifle and another supposedly made in 1953. I will update upon receipt of letters.

L2S,
I'll guess the one will come back EG made 1943/44. I find it interesting that Savage was still producing 99's through the war years. Yours is one of the few that I have data on.

From what I've got, only 156 99's were produced in 1944, you might have a nice piece there!

Pulled my "hybrid" out of the safe and checked it out--butt plate, butt and forend are all numbered to the receiver. It is a nice handling rifle--the forend is much more comfortable than the EG.

Hi,
Maybe I should have my 99 lettered. It is an R, serial 419xxx. Definently an R, pre-50's R forend with grooves, longer pull, wider buttstock, all serials matching.
According to serial, it was made 1946, but some say only EG's were made in 1946.
Who knows.... What is the serial of your Hybrid LawMan?
This is my most comfortable 99 to handle and shoot. It comes up to the eye very naturally and has nice balance.

Chris, don't go by the Savage 99 site, it jumps from 1941 to 1946, please get it lettered.

I would guess it to be about a 1942 production rifle.

Joe,
What kind of payment did you send for a letter? I was thinking of sending a Canada Post Money Order in US funds. I was thinking of having a few of mine lettered. Maybe I'll send for the info on my early 99-B / 1899A TD rifle as well. See what it is...
Will the letter include model designation?
Thanx,
Chris

Ya chris, I've always sent John cash. Not really a good idea but it always works!
I've got 4 rifles all getting lettered in about a week. I was just gonna send for that last 1895 I got but I think I'll do the 3 rifles in the old Winchester calibers while I'm at it, Emmitts post got me thinking about it.
I should seriously think about getting the 1899F lettered as well just to see if that cresent stock on it was a factory add-on.
Oh ya, the model designation of the reciever is always in the letter, if you go back a few pages there are factory letters posted on the board, or I can send you a copy of one of mine just to see what they're all about.
