I have my Blackhawk in 45 LC and ordered my brass from Starline AND my bullets from Berrys (200Gr RNFP.
Today I will get my Dies and Trailboss
My question is what is the difference between RCBS Cowboy Dies and Standard Dies for the 45LC.
The shop near me only has the Standard
I still need to get the rifle and Shotgun AND all the Rig
As I said I am Inching toward the sport

I use the standard dies for 45 Colt with no problems. I have standard and Cowboy dies for 32-20 and can't tell any difference in how they function. I would also like to know what the difference is supposed to be.
Get good leather the first time and you won't have to buy it later.

Cowboy dies are supposed to be more compatible with cast bullets. In .45Colt most folks have been loading cast all along, so I think any difference will be negligible or nil. (The situation is probably different different with other calibers.)
I load .45 Colt with Lyman dies and have no problems with a variety of cast bullets and different sizing diameters.
The only cowboy dies I have are in .38 WCF, as that is all I could get at short notice. They do the job splendidly.
I'd get the regular dies as long as they have a carbide sizer. That feature you WILL need.

I am also inching towards the sport, I recently acquired another Ruger super blawkhawk in .44mag to go with my first one and .44 mag Win 94 and side by side coach gun. Now I just have to find a place around me that has competitions on a day other than Sundays!

I have been using the Lee Carbide dies for years with no problems at all. I think the "cowboy" tag just increases the price a tad.

Just don't try to load them too light and you will be good to go. Enjoy, it is a fun sport.
