I have one of these in 338WM flavor and its just not shooting up to the standard Tikka potential. I reload and havent gotten it to shoot better than 1.5 at 100yards. The stock doesnt seem to be very high quality so Im thinking about replacing and/or fixing it. It has the black synthetic stock. Can this be bedded successfully or are there any drop in aftermarkets available that would be a significant improvement without breaking the bank?

I had a Tikka in a 30-06 that wasn't that accurate out of the box. It took about 100 rounds down the tube to break it in. It also had to have a fouled barrel, clean barrel had slightly different POI. I also found out that the screws holding the stock were not up to Spec. One had loosened up to almost finger tight. I got a torgue wrench and set both to 30 inch-pounds. Checked the scope screws and torqued them to 25 inch-pounds. The scope was on another rifle and I knew it was OK. So the gun is know shooting under an inch @ 100 yards, just fine. I am sure there are some Tikkas that have some problems but I don't know of any. Make sure the stock is not touching the barrel, use a dollar bill to see if it is free floated. Don't start bedding or anything until you have all the basics checked. Buckfever 1

Ive checked the screws, swapped scopes, tried reloading several different bullets, 160ttsx, 200nbt, 210tsx, 180nbt, also shot some factory ammo with 225 and 250 grain bullets. Barrel is floated and I have cleaned it down to the metal, doesnt make much difference. Occasionally I will get a decent group, then it goes right back to up to 3 inch groups (at the worst).

Check the crown or have it re-crowned. Give it time to cool between shots. After all this take it back to the dealer and have them send it in. Still have time before hunting this year. Buckfever 1
