I only use my loads for the Whelen. A 250 Speer and a max load of RL-15 is what I used on my elk but it could have just as well have been a Hornady 250 spire point. It has produced accurate loads using RL-15, Varget and H4895 along with Rem 200gr PSP, 200gr Hdy spire points, Sierra 225 GK, Nosler 225 BT, and the afore mentioned 250s. It's easy to find a load that's suitable with what's on the shelf. "Not fussy" is an appreciated quality in a rifle nowadays....

I have not shot an elk yet but i just got a used kimber montana 325 wsm Put a swaro 4-12x50 av on top. A little more recol than what i an use to but not really that bad. I have not got into load development yet, still waiting on dies and brass. factory loads grouping about an inch or so at 100 I missed my aiming spot about 2 inches to the right at 300. I think that will do

Go to elk rifle for me is a 300 Win, SUCKS w/Lilja @24", sitting in a Mickey rem classic. Leupy 3.5-10 on top w/turrets. A tad over 8lbs all up and it'll reach way out there if need be. If I'm backpacking, it'll be my Edge stocked remmy 270 that comes in a whisper shy of 7 lbs all up.

My favorite rifle is a Weatherby Vangaurd, 35 Whelen, 25" magnum weight Shilen stainless barrel, reworked trigger, teflon coated, with a Bell & Carlson camo stock. Topped with a Weaver Grand Slam 3x10 scope. Loaded up it weighs in at about 9-10lbs. 2700fps with Federal Premium 225 Trophy Bonded ammo. Almost 2800fps with 225 Nosler Ballistic Tip reloads.
With that said, I do virtually all of my elk hunting with a muzzleloader these days...to many people out and about during rifle seasons. The muzzleloader is a Knight Revolution II in 50cal.

Depends on what I have in my hands at the moment. Started out as an '06 thirty one years ago, then worked up through several magnums, always bigger until I got to the .358 STA. 250 grain bullets at 2800fps didn't kill elk any better that the old '06, so I said to hell with takin a pounding and my new favorite elk rifle is a Cooper model 52 in .270. With a little load development that rifle is giving me the half inch groups they guarantee.

Don't know yet, as there are still a lot of cartridges and rifles I've not tried.

Mine has been an FN/Sako 375 Wby, but I just did some trading for a Kimber 8400 in 325 WSM. If it doesn't cripple me, I think it might just be my new elk rifle. It is light and accurate, but it hits my shoulder like a Guillotine.

50 caliber Renegade with a fast twist barrel to shoot conicals. Got a peep on it also. Nothing like being among them during the rut with a muzzleloader.

I prefer my 300 RUM loaded with the old recipe Trophy Bonded Bearcaws in the 180 grain variety. I have 5 boxes of them and probably will never run out...if I do, it will then be 180 grain Partitions. Each elk I have shot with it has dropped almost literally in its tracks, none moving more than five feet from point of impact. Each deer likewise, until last year. I had a 150 # doe shot at 175 yards tote the lead for about 75 yards...go figure. I was shooting 180 grain Accubonds in that case.
She is a Carolina Precision Rifles built on a 700 action, Shilen match barrel, McMillian stock, and averages a quarter inch at 100 yards when I do my part.

Took the same path to a tried and true 340 wby; it kills like Thor's Hammer and I have faith in it and confidence that no reasonable shot is beyond it's capabilities, but then there's carrying it on the 3rd and fourth day when everything seems to get heavier; and if I didn't know better I'd suspect it's recoil of knocking stuff loose in my eyes and causing these floaters. My new favorite elk rifle that hasn't been bloodied yet is a very accurate Rifles Inc..284 that with a Zeiss 3.5-10 weighs ~6.5 lbs. Smaller and lighter is becoming better and better. I'm not sure the elk will know the difference but I will.

I never hunted elk when I bought my first elk gun, a Winchester Model 70 Super Grade with BOSS in .338 Win Mag. When the 338 Ultra Mag came out, still never having hunted elk, I decided I was under gunned with the 338 Win. 338 RUM recoiled more than I was comfortable with, so, still never having hunted elk, I bought a Weatherby SBGM in 338/06. Then I decided that I was limiting my range too much, I bought a Browning A-Bolt in 300 Win Mag (with boss). I still have not hunted elk to date, so I bought a Sako 75 in 300 RUM. Then I just had to have a 7 RUM, so I boughgt a Remington 700 CDL, but never went elk hunting. I still have the Weatherby which is a great CA pig and black bear gun, but decided I wasn't an elk hunter and sold the rest of the bunch. Besides, the beating I took selling all those guns right after buying them made me to poor to afford going elk hunting.  But... I have my eye on another Sako 300 RUM, hmmm! Perhaps what you have now will do the trick? Who know, you might not go Elk hunting anyway. Why buy an ultra magnum cannon when you do not need one, it might be too much recoil and what you have is more than enough?

I will take a Swift A-frame moving at least 2000 fps on impact.
Ok, Nosler is fine too, I just like Swift.
