Just a quick post because RB was good enough to put this subject up. I haven't done a tremendous amount of big game hunting with a pistol. 2 antelope to date, both shot with a 7TCU in a contender. I wasn't too happy with the results. Both were one shot kills, but I didn't get any bullet expansion. Both were with with Hornady single shot pistol bullets. I opted for more power and made the jump to a 7-08 encore, but haven't shot anything but varmints so far. I've been packing various 44's around for years and ahve killed lots of odd varmints with them. But I'm still wishing for a Freedom Arms. Either in a 454 or a 44. I've looked for a used one for several years, and guess I'm just going to have to break down and order one. I would be willing to trade a Wyoming Antelope hunt for one if anyone is interested?????

Don't have a 454. But just got a my first TC Encore in 308. Havn't killed anything yet. Working up a load for 125 gr Nosler Ballistic tips now. Will be working up a 150 gr load for Dahl sheep up here in Alaska. I am very new to handgun hunting. Any input would be great.<P>6X6

6x6,<BR>I don't have the pistol experience for much of a reply. I think the ballistic tips are probably the way to go in a single shot pistol, although I'm not real fond of them at rifle velocities. The one thing I have figured out is a guy damn sure needs some shooting sticks of some sort. I hunt coyotes alot (with a rifle) and used a set of homemade sticks for years. But about a year ago I started using a Snipe Pod. They attach to your sling stud and I find them alot more versatal than say the Harris Bi-pod. I'm thinking about putting a sling stud on the fore end of my Encore to mount to. I think that will be the ticket. The Snipe Pod is made by Kramer Ind. of Montana.

I am shooting a 338 Win Mag in a 15 inch<BR>Encore, with a bull mooose the only animal<BR>taken so far. The barrel is from Bulberry<BR>and has an integral muzzlebreak. This combination is reasonable to shoot recoilwise, but does require hearing protection. I'm getting about 2500 fps<BR>with 210 grain factory ammo. <P>I'm using Nosler Partitions so far, with the <BR>idea that they would perform well at lower velocieties. I had pass through on the moose at 150 yards, and the basic partition performance. What do you think about other bullet designs for these larger calibers?

CCW,<BR> Do you have a web site for that snipe pod? I would like to take a look at one. I got a home made staff with a V on top. it is ok not great. I am seriously looking at the steady stix. How do you carry your Encore with a bi-pod on it. I have a bandolier holster and it holds my gun and scope only. I do a lot of atv riding and need the protection. Do you know of a holster that will take an encore, scope and a bi-pod.<P>Bigram,<BR> Thats a heck of a round for a handgun. <P>I load 220 gr Partitions in my 300 win mag. (rifle) for moose. I am very partial to Noslers. I don't have much experience with anything else. Starting to look at some Barnes bullets thinking about working up some loads with those. 6x6,<BR>I'm sorry, but I don't know Kramer Designs web address. I'm sure it can be found. The snipe pod folds up like a tent pole and has a quick mount system that just has one spring loaded pin that attaches it to your gun. So you can carry it in your pocket, or in a holster that they provide, then when you want it you just undo a velcro strap and snap it on your gun. Take 5 to 10 seconds, max. I have a holster I believe is Uncle Mikes. It is a shoulder holster for a scoped contender/encore. I get along with it fine.

I have been shooting a Contender in 45/70 for quite a while, one elk, cow variety. I am now thinking of buying an encore and see if SSK or some one will build me a 14" 450 Marlin barrel or a 458x2 to go along with my 458x2 rifle.<BR>The 45/70 with 350 grain soft pts dropped said elk at 80 yards like it was struck by a bolt of lightning. So why do I want another 45? Just because.<P>Bullwnkl.
