Anyone got a spare 93 Mauser trigger guard assembly? Mine is a 94/96 according to Kuhnhausen, which explains why it was juryrigged to fit my 93. I've checked all the online parts places and no luck.

1895 Mauser and the Spanish 1916 should work too. Try those models with the parts guys as well. Can't make any promises, but let me check with I get back to work Monday,,maybe there is one in the frame bin.

Through the judicious use of epoxy, J&B Weld, brass stock reinforcement pins, a 1/4x20 bolt & a 10-24 screw used as pillars, a couple of files, drills, a hacksaw, knife, etc., I'm making the 94/96 trigger guard assembly work on a 93. Actually, I believe it will work really well! If I paid myself by the hour, I couldn't afford my payroll.

That ain't the half of it, BN. I now suspect the stock came from a ??? and not a 93. What I thought was a cross-threaded, mismatched 1/4x20 bolt for a 1/4x22 threaded front action screw was only a symptom, not the actual problem. It's a mystery to me why this rifle shot so well--1 to 1 1/4 MOA--with a mismatched fit of action to stock to trigger guard assembly. I should rename it from "Boat Rifle" to "Jury Rigged Rifle."

I'm taking a bunch for an article. Top photo is the rifle a couple of years ago. Bottom photo is a closeup of the 1/4"x20 NC bolt/front action screw. Notice the bent front of the trigger guard assembly. I thought a previous owner did it when he over tightened the 1/4" bolt. Nope, he bent it on purpose because the guard assembly was a little too long. The 1/4" bolt went in cocked and was held by exactly 2 1/2 threads.

The project is coming along nicely. The mismatched trigger guard assembly now fits perfectly and uses regular Mauser screws. The recoil lug area is bedded with J&B Weld. The split stock is reinforced with three epoxied-in 3/32" brass pins. Some J&B Weld under the tang for insurance, and I'm finished. The barreled action now fits the stock and trigger guard assembly like the proverbial glove.

My $30 junkyard 1893 Mauser now shoots like a shiny 2010 $1,300 Whatever. I had only 8 rounds of 175 gr Hornady RN left over from deer season, so two groups of 4 shots each @ 80 yards using a 2x pistol scope scout scope style . . . first group = 1"; second group = 3/4". Take out the small flyer from each group, and the 6 shot composite = 1/2". Did you read the 2x pistol scope part? It's a Burris 2x20.

How are the scope mounts attached? Just bases and rings drilled and tapped?

Yep, Weaver #16 mounts. I had it done circa 1976, and I don't know if the #16s were a perfect fit or had to be altered a little. They were mounted way off the bore centerline which put the scope adjustments almost to the max. That's why when I replaced the optically challenged scope shown in the above photo I went with Burris "Signature" rings and eccentric inserts.

I have nothing but praise for those rings and inserts! You leave a new scope on optical zero or put an old scope back to optical zero, then use the eccentric inserts to boresight the scope. Originally, at 100 yards the old scope was about 2' off in windage and elevation. At zero time with the new scope, it was maybe 3" off in windage and elevation.

Finished! Here's the last of two 4-shot, 80 yard groups. (I had 8 rounds left over from deer season.) Bullet = 175 RN Hornady @ 2000 fps. Burris 2x pistol scope. First group = 1"; second group below = 3/4".
