6 of 1 half dozen of the other but I'll take the increased velocity and the 85 year history of the .270 Winchester.

Im with nsaqam im a .270 win supporter. I own two 700's in .270 and i wouldnt trade em for anything. The 7-08 is comparable but slower.

Both great but the 270Win is my favorite cartridge. For a short action lightweight the 7-08 is the next best thing.

Please, not this again.
If you like short action rifles buy a 7-08, otherwise buy a 270.

The 7-270 is hard to beat, but very rare....

Back East I'd go 7-08. In the wide-open West I'd go 270.
Either is great, but the 270 is the bigger engine, mental gymnastics aside.

The two cartridges are so close, I would be surprised if you could tell them apart in the field, trajectory or performance on game. Though, the 7-08 always seemed to recoil a little less to me, but might just be my perception.

I guess i love the .270 so much that ive never really given the 7-08 a chance. I think this post has inspired me to give one a try on my next build.

I was 10 years old when Jack passed so I didn't get the direct influence. That said, betwixed the 7-08 and 270, I'm going with the long action every time.

For a small caliber I'd go with a .375 H&H or Ruger, for all else, go bigger!
