Hello all,

My niece's husband has a Llama pistol in 45 ACP. Can a standard 1911 magazine be used in this pistol? Thanks for your help. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/help.gif" alt="" />

Generally speaking - yes.

I don't know the specific model Llama pistol you have, but the Llama 1911 'clones' are designed to use mil-spec 1911 magazines. There's some chance the magazines won't work, since not all genuine magazines work in genuine pistols <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />. Don't buy shorter magazines shorter than the grip length (Officer's magazines won't work in a full-size 1911).

Thanks for the info. I am looking for Christmas ideas. Both niece's husbands like to come over and shoot at a friends range when they come to Mississippi during the holidays. May Santa will leave ammo in your stocking this year.

My Llama .45 wouldn't accept any magazines except Llama magazines. I tried over two dozen different Colt magazines and none would fit. That particular Llama was a piece of junk, so it wouldn't be a good representative. The rear sight fell off on the first magazine full, the slide stop wore a rounded place in the slide and it wouldn't lock back. It would fire from the half cock and to add insult to injury, it was terribly inaccurate. Llama said I must surely be wrong and wouldn't fix it. The problem was that I bought it in a rod and gun club in Europe and they couldn't ship it to Spain, nor could they legally take it back. I sold it for parts over twenty years ago. New ones must surely be better.

Just a semi WAG, but it sounds like the funky slide stop on your Llama was probably the problem with the magazines. The slide is held open on the last shot because the magazine follower pushes up the slide stop.

A poorly fit/crappy slide stop can fail to hold the slide back, prevent a magazine from being fully inserted, and a number of other fun events. Manufacturers sometimes "fit" otherwise mil-spec magazines with a file to get the pistol out the door.

You're probably correct. The entire batch of Llamas we got into the rod & gun club were all pretty much the same. In fact, they were the last ones we stocked because of all the problems. A friend of mine was an armorer with the Dutch military police and he couldn't/wouldn't fix it, needed too much work to be dependable. Told me to buy a real gun and showed me his Sig 210 duty pistol, sweet. I stuck with .45 and finally bought a Colt Mk IV, one of my all time keepers.
