I just looked the extreme weather. Without looking at specs its probably heavier than the Kimber, but I really liked the feel of the Winchester. I liked the B&C stock as much as I like most any factory stock and the winchester felt both solid and lively to me at the same time.
Unless your chasing ounces I like the Winchester.
Don't get me wrong I like those kimbers, the 84's feel great to me, somehow the lines of the 8400 put me off a bit.

goodshot,
You should handle the Kimber.
I love the 84's, and I love my WSM Kimber, but I have to say the "old" long action Kimbers really don't feel right to me. I am assuming that a 300 WM uses the old long action (they have a new long action now). If not, disregard what I said.
The CENTER will hold.

Both are very well made rifles. Actually weight wise they are very comparable. The M70 EW in 300 Win is listed at 7lbs even and the Montana at 6lbs 13 ozs both with 26" tubes. However brand new the M70 EW can be had for a little cheaper than the Montana. Just for example in 300 Win the Montana on Bud's is $1079 and the M70 EW is $922. I really don't think you could go wrong with either. Try to shoulder and handle both and go with the one that feels best in your hands....

One thing that I can say about the kimber is that the stock fits me really good it soaks up recoil better than any other rifle that I have shot. YMMV

Kimber uses their long magnum action on rifles chambered for the 300 Win and 338 Win. It's the same size/length action they use on the Talkeenta/Caprivi chambered for 375 H&H, 416 Rem, 458 Lott etc. Obviously the 300 Win and 338 Win were designed to fit in standard length magnum actions.....
