I have a model 99 in 25-35 caliber, made in 1911,according to the serial numbers.I have had it about 40 years (my dad gave it to me as someone gave it to him).It sat in my closet all these years, un-shot, until one day I came across it and thought about giving it to a friend who loves guns. I really looked it over, cleaned it up etc. and was so taken with it that I decided to keep it.I like the way it feels, balances, and comes up into firing position. It is in very good condition, about 90% original finish and no cracks or dings in the stock great bore etc. I'd like to start shooting it and would like to know if the modern loads are safe to shoot in one of this vintage. If so which brands/loads would you folks suggest.I'd probably just use this one at the range. Thanks

Any factory load should be safe in that rifle, if it does not have excess headspace. You may want to have a gunsmith check it, or if you know someone who knows how to do it, it can be done with a new cartridge and a very thin piece of shim stock.

90% .25-35...you will finds many "friends" here that would pay to take it off your hands. Take good care of it and enjoy.

I will have it checked by a gunsmith, there is one about a mile from the house. The only thing I ever got rid of were wives and that got to expensive do do over again. I like the old machinery, it has character and was made by people who took pride in their work. I still have my Model A Ford, another gift from my dad--Christmas 1964

Which model Model A do you have? Mine is a 1930 Deluxe Coupe that was my great grandfather's (which he turned into a homemade pickup truck!)

Thanks Regarding factory ammunition, the 117 grain round or flat nose bullet loading has been the only one available for decades. Winchester and Sellier & Bellot (6.5x52mmR) still list 25/35. Any factory loaded ammo in good condition will be safe to shoot, assuming your qualified gunsmith gives the OK. The ammo will not be inexpensive when compared to more commonly available hunting rounds, but will have been worth every penny when you are finished at the range. Check GunBroker for "new, old stock" ammo, also.

The model A is a 30 Deluxe coupe, Late 30 w/one piece splash aprons.I'm on the third rebuild, model B engine and just put hydraulic brakes on it. It's going to my daughter one of these days so her two little boys can ride in the rumble seat too.

Why don't you just sell it to me. I will trade you a .300 Sav 99 that is in great condition, and easy to find ammo for.
