Excellent thoughts, guys...everytime someone on here writes, I learn and I thank you. I'm looking at a varmint 700 bdl in .222 (yes, I have seen one in .223) and it is scoped to my satisfaction, has a custom trigger and its barrel has been free floated. After I have it at what is, I believe a good price, I'll tell you how much. The rifle is said to be a tack driver. I'll let you know. Again, my thanks for all the imparted wisdom. If you feel the price is right, jump on it. I doubt you'll be disappointed. I've got an early 700 ADL in 222, it's one of my favorite rifles.

Thanks, Craig, for the vote of confidence...there seems to be a theme with these 700s and the triple deuce as I've come to know it to be called, and the theme is all good. I'm excited in a good way by the prospects of a really solid rifle that shoots well!

Craigster...I ended up not getting that rifle described above. It had a couple more issues that, all takent together, were more than I wanted. Not that the total package was that bad, but I planned to buy this gun once and shoot it as long as I'm upright and I just felt going forward I didn't have to wonder about what was next. It was a 1977 Mod 700 BDL in .222 with a B&L 2-10 scope, and Timothy trigger for $650 plus shipping. Doesn't sound bad, but like I said, a couple of issues. So, instead, I did a gunbroker auction for $699 for the same gun built in 1987 that appears to have much less mileage on it. No scope, $40 to ship, so when its over I'll have a grand in it for which I had kind of prepared. Thanks for your considered thoughts in all this.

I envy you. A few years ago I wanted a varmint rifle in .222 Rem. They are hard to find. After about a year I settled on a Savage 10fp in .223 Rem. Wasn't what I wanted but I sure am happy with this one.

BigLake: I fully endorse your choice of a Remington 700 Varmint in caliber 222 Remington! I currently own one of these Rifles that I bought when it was new. It is a joy to shoot and is wonderfully accurate! The trigger is splendid and the balance and feel of this "old timey" Rifle is just wonderful. I have Hunted all manner of Varmints with this Rifle from Weasels to Wood Chucks, Coyotes to feral cats and from Starlings to Skunks. The 222 cartridge is simply "one of the best ever" for all around Varminting! I wish you the best of luck in finding a 700 Varmint in 222 Remington - normally I offer to aid folks in finding particular Rifles they are seeking - but in this case if I run across another one of these Rifles I would simply buy it for myself - no matter what the cost! They ARE that good. Hold into the wind VarmintGuy
