Between 41.8 and 42.2 gr. of H4350 in Rem. brass with a CCI BR-2 primer topped with a 140 gr. Sierra GameKing. Velocity of 2725 to 2750 fps. Excellent accuracy and penetration. This is not a maximum load in any rifle I have tried it in.

I have been shooting the Sierra 140 SBT for 10 yrs or so in my Swede. I cant recall the MV but its around 2600. I've whacked a ton of game with it and cant complain.......much. I recover bullets about 75% of the time and the bullets always lose a lot of weight. I kinda used to worry about penetration on hard quartering shots, but I usually forget and just kill stuff.

I use 4895, WLR primers, R*P cases.

Last summer I killed 2-100 lbs pigs with one shot. First one got it in the dome second caught it in the neck. Didnt recover that one.

H414 works well for me. 42grs gives me @2750+ which was faster than the book velocity with a max load so I stopped there. I've only killed a couple of WTs with a .260 but I was impressed. Neither moved out of their shadow. 1 shot @60 yards, 1 shot at 250 yards. Core Lokt bullets.

IIRC Finn Aagaard once wrote the Sierra 140gr SBT out penetrated all other conventional bullets of the same wgt and all of them (140gr/6.5mm) out penetrated the 180gr Cor-Lokt in wet paper from a 30-06 @ 2700fps.
The Sierra was his bullet of choice in the Swede @ ~2650 fps, if my rememberer is still working. wink

I've not shot the Sierra's, but I do know that the 140 Hornady Interlock, 140 Hot-Cor, and 140 Partitions are no slouch in the penetration department either. You have to chunk some serious weight in a 30 caliber to get the same SDs that 140s in 6.5's offer.

I don't know if its the penetration you get with a 6.5 or what, but they really do kill a lot better than you'd think.

Ole Joe, I used to correspond with Finn Aagard years back, I have several loads from him Jack O'Conner and Fred Huntington too. Most go back to the early 70's. I miss their writings a bunch.

I'm running 43grn H4350 with 140grn Hornady SST in R-P and WLR primers. Chronograph 2700ish. Recently shot 2 caribou with this load, each was shot in the lungs twice. Nothing in any of the animals except two holes in, two larger holes out.

My 3 different 260s seem to get the best accuracy with 44 grains of IMR 4350. MV is 2750 out of a 22 inch barrel.

Worked up and also tried a charge of 44 grains of RL 17 with the 140s and got as good if not better accuracy. MV was a hair over 2800 fps. Large rifle primers..

You've got to love the 260.
