This brings a smile to my face. I too started with a Lee Loader. Only one time did I pop a primer. Late at night, I was hammering away at the kitchen table getting ammo ready for the next day's hunt. Mom had long since gone to bed, but it didn't take long for her to get up when she thought I blew myself up.
Good ammo can certainly be made on the cheap with inexpensive tools. My handloads on that old crackerjack tool shot sub MOA. Ninety-nine cents for 100 primers, $3.12 for a hundred 55 grain Hornady softpoints, and $5.86 for IMR 4064. BTW, those prices sound good until you realize that wages went up faster than the prices.

Well I think Lee Precision is the best thing out there.

And to think that for the most part most of us probably did this without $150 chronographs and $250 powder dispensers.

And today with all my new tools and press not sure the ammo shoots a lot better just cost more and takes longer checking this and that and the groups can only get so small. I like my Redding press but dose it make better ammo then the Lee and RCBS before it not likely.

I'm also a believer in a good beam scale. I use an electronic scale attached to an RCBS chargemaster. I still check against the beam scale often. And both scales get checked with a check weight set fairly often.
If one had to go, it would't be my old tan Ohaus 10-10. That was before RCBS began putting their name and green paint on them! I think I got it for a Christmas present in 1977.
