I have been away for awhile on vacation and just pulled up the A7s on Gun Broker. They must have sold pretty fast as there are no longer nearly as many for sale as there was about three weeks ago. Kinda makes me want to hurry up and get one while the prices are still good. I only see one 300 wsm in the $500's now and before there were several. Just a heads up to those that might have been considering one.

Yep, when word got out that you could get an A7 for $565 they started to fly off the shelves.
Makes sense, a Sako for the price of a Tikka is just a plain good deal.
This situation reminds me of when Tikka stopped making T3 Lites in blue. I got one in 270 WSM for $399. When they were gone the price went up.
Seems as though Beretta really sells discontinued and superseded rifles cheaply.

A7 in .243 is really tempting me, even though they suck..

ok, should I get an A7 in 300 wsm, 7mag, 30-06, 270 win or 270 wsm for elk? By the way, I have a .264 but it's pretty heavy and that is why I am considering the A7.

Rancho,

I used to quite heavily but because of a year in Iraq and getting hit by hurricane Katrina, I haven't done any reloading for a few years and I lost all my equipment; however, I am all settled now and would like to get back into it.

I'd suggest the .300 wizzum if you're going to be rolling your own.

So Sam, how bad does that SUCKER recoil? I am not a big guy and the older I get the less I like recoil....maybe I should get a short action .308!

If you reload, you can tailor a load to your liking. Hence my rec above.

Sam (and others) has overcome the suckage of the A7 enough to get me real interested...

264,
I've had a couple T3's in 300WSM's and they do rock you hard.
Don't go to a .308, but strongly consider a 30-06.
My T3 in .270Win. has taken cow elk to 300 yards with a 150gr. Partition with no problem.

Funny how this recoil thingy works on all of us differently. I don't feel that the T3/300WSM rocks me at all...and when I added a Limbsaver it got even more user friendly.

I've shot Sam's A7 and to me it's quite user friendly. Must be the redneck palm swell he added.. grin

Yes, once I became aware of the Limbsaver, I put it on the 300WSM, 300WM and the 338WM's. It certainly helped but it lengthened the LOP about 1/4 inch.

This price has been tempting me as well.

I was just joking around about the recoil but it does have a little kick. The recoil pad is fairly thin/firm so that makes a difference I guess(haven't replaced mine).
I shot some 200 grain bullets(2900fps) in it and those were beyond my fun level. 165's are easy, 180's have a little more snap.
Shooting position seems to have more to do with it than anything. If you're not careful, prone off the bags can be unenjoyable.

A 308(or 243) wouldn't suck!

And yeah Dober, it's all about the redneck palm swell.....(grin)

Does this "redneck palm swell" have anything to do with sheep?

I recently pick up 2 A7's a .243 and a .308.. BigWhoop ..I didn't need another 30-06 as I have my old Minnesota hunting rifle.. now modified with a 3-9 x 40 scope instead of open sights (Rem 7400).

Ok, I seem to have delayed too long once again. I can't find any 300 wsm for the low $500's price on Gunbroker any more. They do have a 270wsm and some 30-06 and 270's for the low price. Anybody know where I can get a 300wsm for a low price now that they are all gone on Gunbroker? If not should I go for the 270 wsm or 30-06 for elk?
