The reg book lists odds for specific tags but I haven't been able to find odds for the combo licenses. Anyone know where that info is?

I called them last year and got them. I can't recall but I think it is not very good. Like 1 in 9.

I have a friend that comes to Montana to hunt and he puts in for the combo license- It is unusual for him to NOT get drawn, so the odds can't be very bad.

There are something like 12000 combo licenses available, and something like 2000 Deer licenses. I can usually get a combo every other year, but have yet to draw a deer only tag. I'm about 50/50 on antelope tags in Montana.

Last I checked the first year odds for the deer combo tag were 20%, and elk/deer combo were 30%. Second and third year odds are MUCH better!
Is it Friday yet?

Thanks for the replies. I notice none of you gave a reference- I guess I'm not blind after all.

I don't recall seeing any reference in the regs. I got mine from the Billings Gazette a few years ago.

I was told by a guy at the Fish and Game Dept that your chances of drawing a deer only combo tag is about 20% with no pref points and 40% with 1 point. If you apply for the deer/elk combo your chances are around 60% with no points and near 90% with one point. The reason your chances are higher for the deer/elk combo is that fewer people apply for it.

You think those are long odds. Montana started a bison season this year. Ten permits (one nonresident) 7000 people put in for them!!!

I've drawn 3 big game combo tags in a row with no points. The fish and game told me that there are about 14,500 applicants on a yearly basis or there abouts that apply for 13000 tags... The number of people that put in, and don't draw and accumulated a point won't sway the draw odds all that much.
Deer tags are probably hovering around the 20-25% mark with MAX pionts...probably about half that with no points...
The best part about Montanas money scamming point system is... with max points your odds of drawing are only slightly (like 2-3%) higher than with out a point system... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> But if you don't apply for points your odds decrease dramatically.
