I have an oportunity to get some new in box, first generation, night visiton gogles. Anybody out there uses these for night hunting. I'm thinking I wouldn't even need a light. Can you see through a scope with these in dark??? I'm just looking for feedback from any one with experience with first generation night vision equipment.

Worse than just using a good light... You have to buy the high dollar stuff to do what your talking about and any Gen 1 item isn't going to cut it. You've read about the guys that shot the Federal Park Ranger at night while predator hunting while they were wearing some Gen 1 goggles? Mistook him for a coyote...
Every normal man must be tempted, at times, to spit on his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin slitting throats.

Not trying to hyjack a post but what are the laws on night hunting. I was thinking of stacking a night optic in front a fixed scope for hogs.

Hogs are what i'm after as well. I'm just looking for the least intrusive way to hunt em at night. Easier to shoot with out light than to explain to neigbors why I'm shining at 11:00 at night. Probably hunting from a tree stand in somewhat of a suburban area, and probably with a cross bow.

Rather:
Have you tried these out? I sure would before I laid out any money for them. I've seen first generation goggles and monoculars before and not been impressed.
It's a mystery to me why the cost of the good stuff hasn't come down over the years. TV sets, computers, etc., all cost a fraction of what they used to. Not night vision gear, though.

The only night hunting allowed in Alabama is coon or possum hunting with dogs unless you have special permission from fish and game to thin a problem deer herd that is destroying crops, etc.
