I lost a set for my leupold and now I am wondering if I'll ever need them. Without an accurate affordable rangefinder, I use the Kentucky windage and elevation method. How much would the replacements cost, and are they worth it with a rifle occasionally slung over the shoulder? This might have been more appropriate on the optics page, but I was curious, how many screw down a target type scope on their hunting rifles?

I have'em on my varmit/target rifle. It's a Rem M700 in .308. It wears a Leo. 3.5-10 Tactical scope I like the idea on a long range, accurate rifle. I've decided to steal Big Stick's target elevation knob trick for my two custom hunting rifles. If your worried about them taking abuse, check out the Leo. M1, and M3 versions of their Long Range scopes. They are the same knobs that Leopold uses on their Mk.4 sniper scopes. You must have good range information, and know how to call the wind to make full use of them. Without a laser range finder, a Mil-Dot reticule will work to some degree at least. The bottom line is that you cut down on the guess work as much as possible to put that shot where it needs to go. E
