Well my youngest boy Logan turns 8 years old tomorrow and for a birthday present wanted to spend today out shooting with older brother and dad...how could I say no?? From front to back: Surgeon .338LM, Surgeon .308, another Surgeon .308 and a Surgeon 6XC....all scoped with S&B PMII's. There was only a slight tail wind when we started. Steel plates were placed at 600 meters and 700 meters. I started with the 6XC and these were the first 5 shots at 700. Went back and shot 5 more...group ended up being slightly larger than 4"...but 8 were under 3". Pretty happy with that. I guess I'll start shooting coyotes with it again!! Finished looking like this... The best .308 group was this 6 shots at 600 meters...not too bad...shot by my nine year old Shane!! Here's Logan making granite dust at 1100 meters with .338LM. Yes, he has his muffs on under his parka!! Lunch break...cold pizza in the sage is pretty good!! They shot up over 500 rounds of .22's!! to finish off a great day!! BTW, Thanks Brad Arnett!! those target plates are the bomb!!

Sounds like a GREAT day! Mine two are 2.5yo and -0.4yo so I have a bit of a wait, but am patiently waiting for days like that. PS- Guess you're not starting them off with junk...

I am NOT showing this thread to my Son...it will cost me a new rifle and scope. Sounds like a great day behind a butt stock for you all.

Plate shooting rocks! If you run out of plates, empty gas cylinders cut in half stuck on a pole or hanging work too. Wish my Dad had taken me out shooting like that growing up.
Ya'll have some interesting target stands - improvise, adapt, overcome, etc. : )
Wish Logan a Happy Birthday for us....

looks like a nice outing.....may have to try and meet up sometime for shooting, my brother thinks he needs a long range rifle like your 338LM and ive got nothing in that class for him to mess with......
BTW was that fire anywhere near your place last week? heard the page for assistance from our guys go out Thursday night......

We should get together and ring some steel someday....The place we went today is only 9 or 10 miles from the house here. I found an old dump site out there years ago off the Willow Creek Road....A very target rich environment!! That fire ended only about 1/4 mile from our place here the other night...A little too close for comfort! Some kids out fishing on the Milk River built a campfire and the wind took hold of it was the rumor....

I live in a godforsaken liberal hellhole, and sometimes I worry about this country when I look at the morons all around me.
But when I see a photo of an 8-year-old boy making hay with a state-of-the-art precision rifle, and then I notice the S&W revolver on his belt, I start thinking that we might be OK in a few generations.
Thanks for sharing that with us.

If Montana had a standing army, a 270 Win with Federal Blue Box 130's would be the standard issue.

Glad to share with you!!
As a proud father I will say that 8 year old is a special one....all he talks about is hunting, guns, shooting and wrestling. He wants to join the Marines and become a scout sniper. All American boy, that one!! His best friend in the world? His older brother...two peas in a pod!

Pat... Good job. You're still my hero. My dad was never much of a gun and hunting guy. Thank God for redneck uncles. Pretty cool teaching your boys the ins and outs of rifles and handguns. Somehow I'm betting they won't wind up in my mill with hats on sideways and underwear sticking out of the top of their pants
I'm Irish...
Of course I know how to patch drywall
