Just got my new.338 RCM last nite. Getting ready to mount the the scope and notice no iron sights? 22" barrel. Checked the order number and correct for the 20 barrel with sights. Box even has a picture on it with sights.??? Called Ruger customer service and they said that was not possible the RCM always has a 20"barrel? Gave them the serial number and they said they would get back to me.

Any of you writers have a clue what is going on?

Debating weather or not to keep it or send it back. It's a nice rifle but I was really looking for a compact rifle with B/U sights.

That is truly bizarre. I'm sure you'll be swapping it for another, but I would really love to hear the explanation for this one. Please keep us posted.

Sounds like they put a Hawkeye Standard in a Compact Magnum box....

The standard is 22" with no iron sights....

Odd man, bum deal.

It says 338 RCM on the barrel? That's weird.

Did you get the rifle from a local gun dealer in your neighborhood, order it from a distributor or from a place like Gunbroker?

That is very wierd. Until now, I`ve never seen nor heard of a 338 Hawkeye RCM coming with a 22" barrel and no iron sights.

Send it back and get the right one. The whole theme behind the Hawkeye RCMs in the first place, is having the shorter rifle length along WITH a 20" barrel.

Aside from the cartridge, a longer barrel to go along with a longer rifle, just makes it another ho-hum rifle.

The shorter OAL with its iron sighted 20" barrel, IS WHAT sets this rifle apart from most others. That`s why you ordered the darn thing in the first place.

Send it back!!!!!

Who did you order from? Someone may have pulled a switcheroo... and what's the caliber stamp on the barrel?

It came from the distributer directly to my dealer. The distributer has three more. He opened the boxes and checked for us. All three had 22" barrels and no sights. The order numbers are correct on the box for the 20" RCM, but 22" inchers in each one. Ruger insist this is not possible. The distributer is calling Ruger as well. Bit of a hassle because we had filled out and filed the paperwork with the ATF. I was in a hurry as the shop was closing and didnot check the rifle till I got home.

So no rifle to play with this w/e. frown

Oh isn't this interesting. I think I saw something at one point about building a 22" RCM...in the left-handed version only. But if it won't chamber RCM's...that's a bad sign.

Sounds like they owe you a thing or two...

ps...take a bunch of photos for us to see... laugh.

Sounds like some serious QC issues at Ruger the day those rifles were made.

Plot thickens.....

Maybe it's Lee24's old misplaced 375 H&H.....

Obviously a major f-up. Wrong barrel or barrel stamp or something. Let us know how it goes with Ruger. They obviously need to correct asap. If for some reason you can't get satisfaction quickly, PM me... I may be able to help you cut to the chase.

That is truly weird...

Better than if it were labeled ".338 Federal" and chambered for .338 RCM...

True that... I can't wait to find out what the explanation is.

More on this: Bolt face for sure is magnum. The chamber is not .308 size, so its not a .338 Federal, yet a factory round will only go in about 3/4" and I am not going to force it. Chamber is clean. Something amiss for sure and we are packaging it up tomorrow and it is going back to the distributer and they can send it back to Ruger.

Will get photos in the morning.

We will start over again, still want one.

A QC manufacturing screw up for sure, but then placed in the correct box.

Hey! At least the box was correct uh???

I`m sure Ruger will take care of things OK and then figure out what happened on their end.

Maybe there are some dems working at Ruger who are thinking too much about November???? LOL!!!!!!
