I went to the Puyallup gunshow today with my brother.
I bought a Sav99 300Sav for $280 and carried it around.

I did not notice that it had two safeties and was side drilled for scope.

My brother bought a Win 69a in mint condition for $135, and I was so embarrassed at how good a job he did buying a rifle, that I sold my Sav99 for $300 to someone who approached me. I made $20 for carrying it around for an hour.

Then my brother bought a Sav 99 in 300 Sav for $190.

He was out of money, so we went home.

Here is the sav99 my brother got for $190 made in 1950 with minty bore.

Looks like 99's bring less money south of the 49th than north of it. I looked at a 250-3000 yesterday at a gun shop. They wanted $289 for it with a stock broken in a multiple of places, glued screwed and bolted together and still had chunks missing. No bluing left and the fore stock looked like a dog had been chewing on it. Yup! $289. Had a bulge in the barrel right near the tip but that could be easily bored out.

I didn't buy it.

Would love to see pics of the dual safeties on yours, just to see if they match up with others we've seen.

Great buys.. haven't seen a decent 99 for $400 or less in a long time at a gun show or store.

Gun show here this weekend. One model 24, not another Savage except a few 110's. Total bust. Where is Puyallup? I want to go to the next gunshow there for sure! There is one 99 in all the pawn/gun shops within 35 miles from here, and the guy wants $1000 for an average EG.

There was a local show here this weekend. One pre-mil .243 for $950. There was also a decent, but aftermarket D&T 99EG for $595; I passed on both. Would like to have a R or F in .300, or an early .30-30. Still waiting for my tax refund frown

You remember what dealer that was? You should at least PM Lightfoot (Mike) it'd be a nice birthday present.

99R's in 243 are pretty rare to say the least...

Jeez, I was just bustin on Drew cause he's always got his nose in the wind. grin

If it really was a 243 R, better grab it or at least tell Drew where it is. laugh

Are those prices normal in Washington? If so, it might be worth a road trip.

Randy,

You should put your nose into the wind a little more... a 300K just sold within 30 miles of your place... did you know that?

well, oops, sorry I didn't know more at the time. I was dividing my time between that 99 and a odd 1911 that said "S.MFG" on the side.

grin

No seriously, I knew 358's were sought-after, but not .243's. Didn't get the dealer's contact info, but he does show up at that show occasionally. I never cared much for the caliber so really pay little attention to them, regardless of the firearm.

A 99R or F shooter in .300 is next on my hit list, maybe a older .30-30 if a good deal. That assumes I ever get my much-ballyhoo'd first time homebuyer tax credit. mad

I'll try to raise a flag the next time I see a rare deal.

I did not know that. You have the nose of a bloodhound. Mine is more like a turkeys. Wasn't trying to take a shot at you, was meant as a compliment. Hope you did not take any offense. grin
