This project started fourteen months ago when I did a little horse trading with a buddy and ended up with a new Rock 5R barrel. I have wanted to build a 6.5 caliber mountain rifle for over ten years. Once I got the barrel, then things started to happen. The inspiration for the 260AI came from reading the Terry Cross article on the 6mmBR.com website and watching my hunting partner slay mule deer with his 260 Rem. Here is the blueprint: Remington Model Seven action (fluting and milling by Karl) 23 Stainless Rock 5R barrel, #3 contour (fluted). 1 in 8.5 twist. Cut with a 6.5mm-08 AI reamer by RGS. Chambered and trued by R Bros Rifles Holland Recoil Lug Rifle Basix Trigger Tubbs Speedlock firing pin assembly and bolt shroud Pillar bedded Basner stock with a 0.8 Decelerator Pad (paint by CAS) Talley Lightweight Rings Cerakote (by CAS) in Graphite Black and Titanium (bolt body). Leupold VX3 2.5X8-36MM Total weight with scope: 6 lbs 11 oz. During the initial barrel break in, my fire forming loads have been shooting 0.6 MOA and better at 100 yards. I havent shot any loads with formed brass yet, but Im pretty optimistic based on what Ive seen so far. My thanks to everyone who helped on this project.

A fine rifle for sure, I love to see a 7 pound Remington. The bolt work looks really good thinking about having mine done.

Thanks for all nice comments. Its been fun to plan and build. I've been shooting the Lapua 139 Scenars behind H4831SC in my fire forming loads and they have been shooting great. Once I get more cases fire formed I'm anxious to try the 120gr Barnes TTSX and the 130gr Accubonds behind some RL17. I also have a box of 130 Berger VLDs that I'll try. I'll let you know how they shoot.

Great looking rig and entirely practical. Well done. What sort of rifle rest is that? Looks like one I read a review of long ago, but the sticker price of near $300 put me off. Remington Model Seven action (fluting and milling by Karl) Is that to say the action was milled (lightened)? Opposite the port side? Or are you speaking of the bolt & barrel fluting?

That is a super nice rig.
