I haven't used my Ithaca DS II too much in the last few years, mostly carry a inline ML. When I do carry the slug gun it is stoked with the Federal Barnes Expander, 2 3/4"
I never shot the Lightfields but from what I've heard that would be a good place to start.

I have been using the same a Mossgerg 500 for the last 37 years. I has killed a ton of deer. I bought a rifled barrel for it when they first came out. It wears a Bushnell 3x9. I use Remington 2-3/4 Copper Solid sabot slugs. They are very accurant in my gun and deer never seem to travel more than twenty yards after being hit.
Fall seven times, stand up eight.

By "rifled tube" I take it you are talking about a choke tube? I`ve no experience with them. I do have a 870 20ga with a fully rifled barrel that shoots the Litefields very well though. Hornadies new saboted Tipped slug also shoots quite well. The old Federal copper HP sabot loads were OK but aren`t available anymore. Winchester Premium....? Nothing though shoots as well in a slug gun as good loads from a muzzle loader IMO, nor has the range. Slugs are like 22s you have to try a lot of loads to figure out just what works best, then buy a case of them. The next lot won`t do what the 1st did.

splat, Hornady SST's in my Benelli SBE wouldn't group well at all, the plastic sabot wasn't sealing against the rifling and twist rate wasn't optimal. They shoot well in my friends Mossberg 500 and Rem 870 though.Might be worth a try in your shotgun, as some are reporting 200+ yard kills with these. The Lightfield and Hastings type slugs have an "expanding" type plastic sabot which presses against and seals itself with the rifling. Because of this, they'll shoot very well in most shotguns, including my ER Shaw barreled Benelli.
Might begin with the Hornady's if you want extended range, or just go with the Lightfield Hybrid EXP's.
Hope all goes well for you.

Almost all my slug guns have loved the Federal Barnes Expanders (2 3/4" was best)
Winchester Platinum premiers and Gold Partition shot really well too...I might like to try the Dual Bond as well.
None of these or any other Sabots have shot well enough for me in the Rifled choke tubes for me to want to use them.
All my guns have fully rifled bbls....cantilever.
The only slugs that did well enough for me in the rifled choke tube was the Remington Buckhammers and the Lightfields.
What I mean by not shooting well out of the rifled choke tubes is they were either tumbling (extended choke tube too) or accuracy was terrible.

Yes. And it is a beauty! Well worth the little investment for those who often find themselves limited to "shotgun only" areas. It feels and acts 100% like a rifle.

I personally enjoy my T/C Omega but a buddy of mine is interested in the savage slug gun. Overall how do you rate it?

Overall how do you rate it? Best slug gun I have ever owned. Lightweight, great trigger, good fit and finish, easy to mount optics and shoots groups at 50y and 100y that will compete with many rifles. Ammo ain't cheap, but what is today?

I also have a Savage 220 and found that the Remington Accutip was crazy accurate - I shot a 1.5 inch 3 shot group at 100 yards sighting in and testing the ammo. Love mine, but I will have to admit that the feeding was a bit rough at first, though it settled down. I am guessing I can't expect it to feed like my model 70.

Browning Gold Hunter with factory cantilever rifled barrel, Nikon 2-7 scope shooting Winchester Platinum Tip 400 grain sabot slugs. This combination is accurate and has killed many deer for me.
