K, heres the deal..
My fil has a chance to get a Remington 721 in 30/06 with a Helia scope on it.
It has been checked over by a gunsmith and is all good to go.
He says bluing is 95% and the scope same.
The stock he says has a ebony tip and a monte carlo cheek piece.
I checked out the value of the rifle and guesstamating about $350-$425.00????
The scope he says has Helia written on it and I didnt quite hear him right but I think he said something like a 2.7x?? I dont know.
I checked Helia out and see they are made by Kahles and see they are quite pricey but his scope I suspect is an older model.
He is getting this rifle also with a leather soft case that is lined with lambs wool.
All for $300.00
I know its worth more than that but how much do you think the whole outfit is worth.?

I agree with the $350-425 estimate and that $300 is a smoking deal for a classic rifle with a 2x7 scope. I would be all over that one quick.

My BIL bought a Remington 722 in .222 Rem. last week at a yard sale for $350. Very nice condition, with a Bushnell scope, he now has two of these in this caliber.

T264,
I have a M721 and a Kahles Helia (although not used together), and the rig will definitely be worth about twice the price (unless something is wrong). The stock is not original, and is fancier than what came with the rifle.

At least twice the asking price barring a pic. If the stock mods are well done then mebbe $750.00. I'll buy the scope for a hundred and he'll only be out $200.00. Sounds perfectly acceptable to me. PM me your payment info .

Yeah, I'd say the scope is worth at least that much if in good shape. I think there are variations on the Helia model, ie. 26mm vs 30mm, but I often see the 30 mm models going for $500-$600 on ebay! Not too hard to find an original 721 stock either or fit it to a 700 stock! Sonds like a great deal! Lundtroller

If it does have an aftermarket stock, it should handle recoil better than the factory stock. I had a 721 in 30-06 in the early 1950's and it kicked like a mule. There are no flies on a 721 however, accuracy is there in spades. Triggers set by the factory were set right. I have seven Rem 722's, same triggers as in 721's, and the breaks are exceptional. They came a little heavy when I got them, but adjusting them down to 2 1/2 pounds made awesome triggers, unlike many of the poor triggers on factory rifles sold today.
