Semi auto shotgun ever made. Consider quality, reliability and all else that makes the difference.

"Consider quality, reliability and all else"
Hard to say, there are a number of legitimate contenders. Of ones I own/owned, you can easily nominate the 1100, or Benelli anything. Auto-5/Rem 11 and the Super-X-1 deserve consideration. Beretta has made some good ones. Problem is they all work.
Might be more fun to argue the worst!

I'm not a big semi-auto guy, but I did like, and never had a single problem with, a few Rem 1100's that I owned over the years.

Beretta 391, can't think of a better pheasant gun.

Beretta 391, soft shooting and crazy reliable. Benelli's are bulletproof, but the recoil difference is quite noticeable.

I've always preferred the recoil guns. As long as you pay attention to the friction rings set-up, I've had good luck with A-5, rem 11-48 (my 2 favs) and my 1965 48-AL Franchi 12 which, if not for the cracked buttstock, I would probably use on a regular basis.(I'm still searching for a stock replacement). A 6 pound auto 12 is nice to carry if chasing birds all day.

I've only owned two semi-auto shotguns in my life, a Winchester Super X Model 1 and a Remington Sportsman 58. Both fine shotguns, but I prefer a double for upland game and a pump for waterfowl and turkey. Guess I am not qualified to vote - haven't owned any of the "world class" semi-autos (such as a Browning A-5, Remington 1100, the various Italian imports, etc.)

I'm very fond of Beretta 390's.

I like the two Benneli's I have very reliable. They are light as well. I don't like shooting 3 inch turkey loads in the 6 pound 12 ounce Montefeltro.

Just to be contrary, the original-not what is being made today, under the same name-Winchester SuperX Model 1.
A little on the heavy side, but pure quality machining and parts. Reliability was as close to anything being made today that any difference is not worth discussing and they pointed much better.

early 1960s-era Browning A5 Sweet Sixteen. No question about it.

have to vote for the sx-1, bought one new at age 15 and fired thousands of rounds without a SINGLE MALFUNCTION,probably the best built semi gasser ever made, one stamped part in the whole trigger assy. little heavy by benelli standards but built like a tank..... by the way Im 50 now and the sx 1 is still plugging, its a shame they never came out with the 3" version. Jerry Stephens at Nuline Guns still sells parts and he agrees that its the best ever made.

Recent Berettas and Benellis are the best semi-autos ever made IMO. All other semiautos on the market today are way behind shotguns from those two makers.

Absolutely true, I have 4 of them. The super X- Model 1 is far easier to take down to clean. Doc
