After the season is over I'm going to build a fully enclosed box stand or ground blind. I've seen plans for sale on the internet. I was wondering if anyone on here has bought these and would be willing to share. Any advice on building box stands is welcome.
I have built a few myself. most have been 5'x5' but location and terrain dictate how big the can be. I have found where I hunt the one's on the ground work better because of the tree cover.
I have built several on my land, have it designed to do it all myself. happy to share my experiences if you are interested.
Definately interested in your experiences. I've got a rough idea of what I want but I need to get the fine details worked out. It would be nice to be able to learn from others mistakes.
LSU-- We have started making them with 1" and 2" box iron. We'll be making some when deer season is over and will probably put them up shortly after that. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />If you still have my phone #, call me. We got some heavy duty black "plastic" for sides and metal roofing. Floor is plywood cut to fit 4'x4'. Yea, it does require welding. Looks like I gotta learn to weld <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif" alt="" />if I want one for me. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />---George

Tell me about the plastic.......with the price of steel these days, it sure would be nice to find a less expensive alternative for covering box blinds!
I have some plans for a stand made out of treated 2x4's. If I can get the scanner to work this weekend, when I get home, I will try to get them on line. miles
It is some excess stuff that they scarfed up on an old job site. I have no clue who makes it <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />I'll try and find out! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />George

LSU Fan You have email. Sent you some simple plans I did for a friend who is "wood workingly (techinal term) challenged" Let me know if you need any help figuring them out.
If anyone else is interested I have attached the simple plans. I use galvonized screws to put them all together and you can carry them to the field in pieces and then assemble them there with a cordless drill. Droptine
Sorry, no pics of the stands. I guess I never thought about taking any. I usually just take pics of what we shoot out of them. grin. The last one I built was 4ft.X6ft.x5.5ft. and built it as a tower. I attached a simple drawing of what it looks like. The dimensions are differnet from this drawing but the principle is the same. Droptine
I have a friend that welded up a 4' x 6' with 1 -3/4" steel tubing. 6' legs with 4' extensions. Pretty awesome. I put plywood around it with a corrugated (spelling) roof. Nice and roomy for two people. I had it built so the guys and gals could take their kiddos out. So far so good.
I could not get the scanner to work but I have downloaded the plans from my delta cad program in the only two options that it would let me do. If anyone can figure out how to open them, I do have a few comments on building these plans. They are saved as .dc which is a delta-cad drawing program and a .dxf which I don't have a clue about. miles
Would not let me upload files with these extensions. help!!! I can e-mail them if you want. miles
Know a guy who built a kind of "blind" for paintballing. Paintballing isn't hunting, but I think that this might work for you. It's a box that's 5x5x5 feet. On each side he has a little window with a little bit of wood that folds down and latches so no one can shoot in at him through a window that he isn't shooting out of. The little windows latch open too. You could use this to close it off if you wanted to do something inside with a flashlight, and the deer wouldn't see you. You could leave these windows open to see and shoot out of.
The windows are attached with piano hinges and are about eight inches wide and four inches tall (you could make them taller if you wanted to)
It wasnt hard for my friend to build this, but it isnt raised off the gound.
Just an idea.

I too was looking at building some shooting houses after deer season ends in MS. Got a table saw and some 18 volt tools for Christmas. You will need to look at the screws you can use in the new pressure treated lumber. I ordered some 316 stainless steel woodscrews of 2" to 3 1/2". I want to build the house on runners so I can skid it around the place with a tractor. The roof line should drain away from the door at one end. I want to make the floor out of a single piece of 4'x8' 3/4" treated plywood, have it at a slight angle where it can drain if the roof leaks and make it removable. This would allow for easy replacement over the years and I can remove it in the off season to keep critters from building nest in there. The upper house would be on 2"x6" runners and that would be raised to about 10' off the ground from 4"x6" runners which could be removed for use as a ground blind. I was thinking of using clear plastic for the windows with hinges to raise them up with a string. Still thinking up ideals for the "Deer Camp Hilton". Construction cost keep soaring as I get into this. Good luck.
