I have always wanted a Beeman R1 in .20 as I a) love the .20 and b) have several Sheridan pumps in .20.
Came across a nice used one the other day and have it on hold.
Any thoughts and experiences as to accuracy and velocity would be appreciated.
Thanks..Bob

The R1 or HW80 is a very powerful air rifle. This describes it better than I can-http://www.straightshooters.com/ourtake/otr1.html The Weihrauch rifles are all great quality ,I own an HW77 and would not be parted from it.

I brought the R1 home today... Have always regretted not buying the last .20 HW77 Carbine I had in my hands...stupid.

I'd someday like to own either and HW77 or an HW95(r9) in .20. Only .20 I've messed with was the c9 sheridan, the .20 seems like an excellent compromise caliber.

R1..turned out to be a R9...tag was wrong... But after reading some reviews and looking at the price of used guns this was still a good deal... Not as good as it it had been a R1 but no loss either.
Just chronographed two pellets, the Beeman Silver Bear HP and new Benjamin standard .20 14.5 grain pellets. The Silver Bear ran 805 and the Benjamin 650.
As I recall my streoided Sheridan runs the Silver Bear about 800 but is in the low 700s with the heavier pellets...guess it is a keeper... Now to find a scope...

Congrats, the R9(HW95) is on my list of "most wanted air rifles". Be sure to post a pic and let us know how well it shoots.

I have owned a tuned HW80, R1 and an R9 all in .20 and the R9 is much more pleasant to hunt with and shoot. The R1 (HW80) are big heavy guns. I have sold all those and just got back in to airguns with a clone of the R9 in .177 cal. The R9 is definatley a more user friendly gun than the R1.

...well it's a SHOOTER...!!!
Put a Bushnell 3-9x40mm AO airgun scope on it last week and just had time to shoot a few shots to get it zeroed... Today while I was waiting for another shooter I tried out the gun off the bench at 25 yards...five Benjamin 14.3 grain pellets in a pinkynail...
Definitely a keeper....Bob

Bob, my R9 shoots 14.5 Crosman Premiers around 675-680 mv and its the only pell I shoot, great accuracy and hitting power. Wonder if 41 lovers gravitate toward the 'middle ground' airgun cal.....5mm?

Even if it's not a R1, R9's are still great guns. 2 of mine that are keepers.

Those customer barrels or 'sleeved' as they look thick vs. mine. Son has a 'blue .17' like that one. Nice but heavier.
The checkered walnut stock is nicer than w/o also.

The checkered walnut stock is nicer than w/o also. Those are custom shrouds I had made for my guns, helps keep muzzle jump down being that these guns aren't tuned, yet. The blue one is a Limited Edition version, #71 of 200. Is your son's gun a L/E version? Weihrauch made Beeman L/E versions in .177, .20. They made to many stocks and started to sell them with the blue stocks but wern't the L/E models. They didn't have the L/E medallion at the bottom of the pistol grip, and it didn't say "Limited Edition" in gold on the left side of the action.

SN S0101
Has L/E Med. on grip and gold L/E on action.
.177.
When he was a Teen, he brought the gun to me in two pieces, asked if he 'let the bbl slip' before engaging during cocking and he said no. Called Beeman, as it busted just behind the tang, said no more stocks, then cannot recall if I sent it back to them -stock or whole gun, but they ended up replacing w/new blue stock. At first I thought they 'repaired it' but I looked and could find nothing where it had split, so I am 100% sure it's a new stock. STILL for the life of me cannot figure why it split, my son SWORE he was cocking normally and bbl did not fly back.
No matter, it is ONE fine shooter, even w/irons, I was shooting itty bitty targets at 40-60 yds or so on rimfire range.
The R9 is to my mind a 'best buy' for an overall air rifle for an adult or young man. Other guns have been overly heavy, harsh firing, etc. R9s have plenty power for an airgun IMHO.

Did some shooting outdoors yesterday with the R9...what a pleasant gun to shoot...much better than the .177 BSA Stutzen I had...and a LOT more accurate.
Fired about 30 shots at shotgun shells and spent wads on the berm about 25 yards out....one miss and only because I lightened up on the hold...
All the shooting was with the standard Bengamin cylindrical pellet...
Really amazing gun.

Had a 22 BSA Stutzen LONG ago, a former Demo model as the company has gone thru many changes since being distributed by Ithaca Gun Co. NY in the 70/80s, found out the Harsh firing rifle had a broken spring, 2 or 3 pieces, finally got it replaced, shot much faster, but still harsh.
My R9 20 does fine w/Crosman 14.3 domes, all I shoot, but there are a few other pellets worthy. Seems Crow Mags were doing well my buddy gave me. Silver bears may do fine and are light IIRC, maybe better on birds, but my 14.3s flatten squirrels and all else I hit, it arcs after say 40-50 yds, but I have dropped tree rats around 60-70 yds. Thump.....drop....= fun!
Congrats Bob.
