scratch the area raw until it bleeds, than douse with rubbing alcohol.

I actually figured that out on my own as a kid.
The seeping of poison ivy, the itch of chiggers, and the itch where a tic was pulled out. Cures all 3 but the poison ivy takes several applications. Doesn't have to be rubbing alcohol. Sea Breeze or a good strong mouthwash like cepacol or lysterine work well, too.

Never had any luck with deet type products. Powdered sulphur from the drug store works every time. Picked that tip up while working on staff at boy scout summer camp and camping in the woods for 3 months at a time in the south.
