I'm in this camp as well. The big $$$ hit to your wallet only hurts for a little while.

Michelin's are consistently good.

The reviews at Tirerack.com are a good place to start.

What size are they?

Omaha Casings in Millard is the place to get the best tire deals, even better if you pay cash and they don't charge sales tax.

I'd also second TireRack ... ship 'em to your door or to a local shop for installation.

Have been running a set of Kumho's on my Accord for 2+ years and they are great. Quiet, good handling in the rain and very little wear. Kumho's will be among my first choice when we replace the van's tires.

That said, I've had good luck with Michelin's in the past, though they're pricier.

I have NOT had good history with Goodyear's in the past. They've been harsh riding, noisy, and wore unevenly - not the suspension/alignment. In my experience they've been Good for a Year ... then annoying.

Some tires places around here have "house brand" tires, they back pretty well ,and are fairly inexpensive.

Get to look at the tires and the reviews on them. Have had great performance from BFG Long Trails on the truck (99 Nissan Frontier) but don't know what they offer for the van. A know a few people who love their Bridgestones, too.

+1. There are plenty of dud designs by "good" tire brands. Have been buying based on the tirerack ratings comparison, based on what characteristics i wanted, and have been very happy. Rare is the tire shop that gives you any fuss about mounting a tire you bring in, too. Saved lots of money.
