How much wind before they don't pop up? or do they seem to care about the wind?
I have heard that if it is sunny, they will be out - do they stay down in cloudy weather?
How much do clouds & wind play a role in the dog's activities?

Wind has to be REALLY bad to keep them down....
They will come out in sunshine..

They would move out of Wyoming if they didn't tolerate wind..worst day out I had to lead a pdog 18 inches at 100 yds with a 22 Hornet.

When the wind stops blowin all the prairie dogs fall over.
They tend to tolerate wind better than I do. 20 mph is my max.

How do you keep the scope on that Nylon 66 sighted in? The scope is not affixed to the barrel. With you pdog catch I see you have it figured out.

I live in prairie dog country. I,m retired so I go out when the wind is less than 10 MPH and the temp is at least 40 degrees. But they are out on sunney, cool, and windy days.

I have noticed that if you shoot straight into the wind the noise doesn't bother them as much and you don't need to figure in the windage.
They don't seem to like rainy days very much, cloudy ones either.

I went out a couple of times in March before the season closed. They were out in the sun and hard to find when it was cloudy. The little miniature one that we have in the desert actually come out when it is a 115 and bask! Stupid rodents!

One thing about the wind and p. dogs, when you start shooting, everything down wind for 450 yards + will go down due to the sound traveling.

If the wind is so bad PD's don't come out it would be a good day to do something else anyhow.

For shooting PDs, I have a progression that I follow after getting upwind of them.
I first fire a 22rf pistol or rifle(sub-sonic ammo), and take all those within about 50yds. Then I go to my 17HMR for everything out to about 150. Then I switch to a 17FB or 22FB or 223 out to about 275-300yds. Then I use a 204 for the longer stuff.
Following this progression tends to keep all the PDs from going down their holes and staying there. In addition, I shoot from the hood of my truck. PDs are generally used to pick-ups, but don't like to see the human two-legged profile. My truck breaks up my profile.
Hope this helps some. The ideas are a combination of my own experiences, and those of other PD hunter at the Fire.
