Do they make a quality double barrel side by side shotgun for under $1500?

Depends what your definition of quality is. Not being a smart a-- here. If you want a decent enough little gun, get a CZ ringneck or their other models. They are less than a grand, decently made, and many say good things.Stay away from the cheaper Russians or Stoegers that swing and carry like 2x4's. Modern guns, use them and don't give it a thought. You want quality, to me that means a lower grade older gun. May have to be a little kinder with them as far as ammo, but a nice old Fulton or Sterlingworth will serve you well and for sure last longer than we will! Just an opinion. Rick

I bought two decent used 20ga SXS's not long ago. Now these are just box locks but they look and shoot good. One is a Bernadelli Gamecock for $800 something and the other an Ugartechia for $400. Both handle well and please me. Not sure what your demands are. Shop around and be patient. Bernadelli with 26" barrels on the left, Ugartechia M221 with 24" barrels to the right. To add that the Autumn Gunworks in Goshen, CT has a couple of nice Sauers. One is a sweet 20 ga.
All guns should be locked up when not in use!

Those are nice. I would love to find something like those. You can't find that around these parts.

Here are some of the guns that were at the shop last year in CT where I got the Bernadelli. I was there yesterday and there was nothing better there than what I have.

Make - probably not. Made - oh yes. And yes to Italian guns. I would look for a used SKB SxS before buying anything from Turkey. If you can find an Ithaca NID, then check it out, see if it's tight, if so get it. There are a few Miroku made SxSs out there, some under the Daly name, some under the Western Field brand. These are excellent guns for the money, pure Anson & Deely design with chopper lump barrels.

There are some very good, solid dependable SxS guns available for less than $1500.00 Several have already been mentioned. Older Ugartechea boxlocks can be really good guns for the money.

For a down and dirty working sxs, I would take a box lock over a side lock any day.

Also, most modern "side locks" are actually box locks disguised as side locks. For a true box lock gun, look to pay some big bucks.
Not many problems you can't fix With a 1911 and a 30-06

The Ugartechea in this pic is a true side lock, next to the box lock Fausti Both were over $1,500 however. My CZ Boobwhite, although not as pretty as these two, is astone cold reliable , even with heavy loads. CZ's issues of a few years back are gone for sure. Cat

A Bernardelli Game Cock is a really fine gun and sometimes undervalued ($800 something, for example!). I'd look for a used SKB Model 100. Traditional, hell-for-strong, and usually not too high. A Browning BSS is just as good but liable to cost twice as much just because of the name! Likewise an older Beretta Silver Hawk; good gun but usually not worth what is asked because they get confused with the newer, more expensive shotgun of the same name. Same goes for a Zoli Silver Hawk, although that is a name not as well known and usually not as pricey as the Beretta.
Basically, you should look for a good used double and keep looking until you find one at a reasonable price.
And why aren't you looking at O/Us too?

I have been very pleased with the CZ Ringneck 20 gauge I bought last fall. Time will tell if it can stand up to heavy use. I have no reason to doubt that it can.

I have a CZ Ringneck in 16 ga. fixed chokes. Imp Cyl & Mod! I don't know all that much about SxS guns, but also bought a 20 ga. in Denver at a gun show it's an Ithica made in Japan, pretty little thing same chokes, I paid 600 cash. I love them both, but have a hankering for a A.H. Fox in 16 ga. I'm getting ready to buy, its only 1900.00, some engraving and made in 1927, so I think its a decent deal. Going to So Dakota this fall and only shoot SxS anymore! 16 ga. is my all time favorite!
