I like the short actions, nice light, well balanced. Both the .257Rob (straight stock) and .308 (pistol grip) I have are easy to carry, hunting rifle accurate. The .30-06 (pistol grip) long action is heavier, you do notice the difference.

All three have heavy clunky triggers. That is the only negative from my experience. A magazine type hunting rifle is my preference, faster loading/unloading, and safer unloading for youth/new hunters to learn.

The .30-06 gets 2" groups with factory ammo. Handloads tighten up to just over an 1".

Neal Jones is the name of the guy in Pennsylvania who does the trigger jobs on BLRs. well worth the money and hassle of shipping him the rifle. The difference in mine was night and day when he got finished with it.

How about a .358 or .308; Both allow short action I would think a .308 is adequate for Elk and .358 more than enough within range.

Couldn't agree more on Jones. Money well spent, night and day difference.

Owned three BLRs two were MOA or better, the other about 1.5moa. The short action BLRs fit me much better than the long action ones. With the right loads I believe the BLRs can shoot as good or better than the average bolt action rifle.

Got one today, a .308 light weight take down.
I found it at the local Gander Mountain on the clearance rack. At $650.00 plus tax I couldn't walk away.
