A friend crunched these numbers,I thought you sport fans may be interested......Here is some velocity data I simulated in Q/L, for a mythical .375 WSM case I genned-up using the case dimensions and water capacity that were mentioned in Layne Simpsons, Jan-01 Shooting Times article on the 300 WSM. Final case dimensions were still under discussion.

Assuming 24" bbl and max pressure = to .375HH of 62.3K psi
All loads are MAX and assume moly coated bullets (not blue ones)

235 X 2880pfs 64.2gr RL-15
250 X 2780fps 62.5gr RL-15
275 X 2665fps 59.7gr RL-15

22" bbl
235 X 2840 fps

Though late at night(for most folks,as it's only 9:30 here),I am quite suprised this topic,hasn't generated interest. ESPECIALLY,via fellow Alaskans. A 6.5lb rifle,that generates 4100ft lbs muzzle energy,with an X bullet!?!....That is the stuff of DREAMS!!. Further more,crunch these numbers,employing a 22" long tube: +1.85" high at 100yds,gives a 200yd zero. It is -8" low,at 300yds and retains 2500+ft lbs,at that distance. All of that,harnessed in a S/S Model Seven. Somebody PINCH me........

I can't remember where I posted it now, but Heavy Express's short .375 is pushing 300's over 2600. At least that is what they list on their website. No doubt the package has promise. Good luck, Troy.

The 375/300WSM is a round I have been a proponent of since the announcement of the 300WSM. It is interesting that Kifaru claims to chamber this round in their microweight rifle, check it out. I want one because I know I can get a 250gr X-bullet to 2700fps+ in a 24" barrel. This translates into 375 H&H-like performance. Consider 2750fps muzzle velocity, 4197fpe muzzle energy, 4" point blank range (no more than 4" high or low out to that range) of 304 yards, 9.6" low at 350 yards, 17.6" low at 400 yards, and 40.3" low at 500 yards. Energies of 3089fpe at 200 yards, 2631fpe at 300 yards and 2229fpe at 400 yards. Before all these machinations I was thinking of getting a 338 Win Mag, but why when I could easily build a 375/300WSM and have a whole lot more fun?

Stick, have you had a chance to run the numbers on say, a 270 Grain Hornady or Aframe? I would think the X bullets would intrude on the powder capacity and lower velocities a bit due to their length. Should be able to gain a bit using standard shapes and lengths?- Sheister

Sheister, that is why my heart is set on the 235XLC. It actually has a "cute" profile. It's length and bearing surface, are conducive to this application. With the blue "slick'em" and the favorable shape,I think it will fly. Though I have been very wrong before, that is the FIRST projectile I'd employ. According to the quickload,270's will be in the 2700fps vacinity. However,I'm sure they will be robbing powder capacity,in a 700 short. I've great faith in the 235XLC's,most of the boys have went to them, excepting Brown Bear. This cartridge could be housed in a very nice package, and would make a rather nice "all arounder" rifle. As brass, dies and reamers become available,I'll have the entire WSM/Lil'Ultra lineup. 257,7mm,308,375,being of most interest to me.......

I've never really given much thought to a Model 7 because of the 18.5" & 20" barrels BUT this has got me really thinking. It's a surpemely practical idea. Enough power without being too much. Light, short, handy and still with a sledgehammer punch.Hmmmm...

How about a 375 Lil'Ultra in a M-700 Titanium short action with a 22" bbl. Should go around 5.25 lbs! Wouldn't be too fun for load development BUT as a hunting rifle, WHOAH NELLIE!!!!!

You know the .416 diameter has always had sex appeal to me. A .416 WSM would be quite a compact hammer wouldn't it?! Good luck, Troy.

Actually BS ... those are about right(or within 100fps) according to the crude method of caculating results... as in:
http://www.reloading-supplies.com/article.php?story=20010209092533209
.02
I'm actually thinking maybe 7mmWSM myself ;-)
--Steve
