Wow am I gonna regret this!

Stopped at the local Store today, they had some ammo on clearance. Not a lot, just four boxes. Federal premiums in 280 remington with the TRophy bonded bullet (160 gr) for $9.99. Reminton made 7mm remington Magnum, with the 140 gr Corelokt Ultra, $12.99. Two boxes Winchester Supreme in 338 winchester, with the 230 gr failsafes, $24.99.

I got home and did a bit of comparison shopping with Midwayusa, and WOW, could I have saved some serious dollars! If only I had one of those calibers. Well, I guess I do have a 7mm, but it don't like the light bullets. If I were a dishonest man...

They also had several boxes of Nosler partitions marked down $3-4 per box and some Barnes bullets marked down about the same.

Well, no. I wouldn't hesitate if I knew somebody with the caliber, and it was a good price.

Got 2 boxes of 510 gr .458 Winmag on the shelf...for $12 a box I figured I couldn't pass them up.

You never know I, I keep a Mauser action laying around ripening next to my computer just in case I need to build something..

I bought a $6.00 box of Kynoch 9x57 ammo at a gun show in South Dakota when I had barely heard of the cartridge. That was six or seven years ago -- and now I have two Mausers in 9x57, a Husqvarna 9.3x57, and a stripped barreled action that is the beginnings of a 9x56 Mannlicher-Schoenauer.

Be a little cautious about that bargain ammo .

I've never owned a 303 savage, but I've bought 6 boxes because I know folks are always looking for some at a decent price. I have also bought and passed along some 6.5 rem mag and 350 mag before remington started making it again.

The local Galyan's has been bought by Dicks sporting goods and had a bunch of premium stuff at half price so I bought some .308 win moly coated 150 gr nosler partitions for $8.00/box. Of couse last week I went and bought a savage 99 in .308 to justify the shells:)
Good shooting,

Hey muledeer, did you shoot any of that Kynoch stuff yet? If you haven't, be veddy, veddy careful! My 9X57 is an old fashioned light weight Mauser, and with that old Kynoch stuff it seems as dangerous at both ends!

I ordered a 9.3X 62 last summer and the dealer never came through. Now I haves dies, 400 rounds of new brass, several assorted boxes of .366 bullets, and one box of RWS factory loads. This is not a problem, it merely confirms that there is a 9.3 X 62 in my future!

The best plan is to get one of everything, then you will be bound to have matching ammo at least most of the time!

OldBadger -- haven't shot the Kynoch ammo, though I now have 11 boxes of it. I'm shooting 200 gr Hornady RN's at about 2300 fps. One of my Mausers is a 1908-vintage factory sporter, and it weighs in at about 6.5 lbs. So it could be a little strenuous. The other one is a rebored BRNO in a Corelight stock, with a 3X Leupold up top. It's pretty easy to shoot, but needs to go on a serious diet.

I'm glad to know there's another 9x57 fan around the Campfire...we may be up to 12 or 13 by now !

I bought 5 boxes of old yellow boxes 250gr Silver Tip 338 Wincheser mag ammo at a garage sale fo 10 bucks total.

I used to own a 338 but sold it back in 87 to help pay some college tuition. I sold or traded most of the 338 ammo to friends. Ten bucks for 5 boxes of vintange Winchester Silver Tip ammo? Good buy.

The obvious point is that this is a good argument to buy another rifle. It is a stronger reason than finding use for brass picked up at the range for an odd caliber.
Looney is in the eye of the beholder.
Good luck!

Absolutely, and I sometimes do the same with dies especially if I hope to buy something in the caliber........someday.

Let's see, there are several hundred 225 Winchesters in yellow boxes, some old 303 Savage, a few 32 Remingtons, a box of 222 Rem Mags.......dies for 358 Norma and 300 H&H, neither of which I own. Dies for 6mm/223, form dies for 445 Super Mag.........

most of it the left over foolishness of a (formerly) single man.

Uh huh, it is looking that way to me too.

I've also picked up dies and brass when on sale for cartridges "I'm gonna get some day".

It's a start...

How many of those do you have now??

I thought about the .375 H&H and .375 Taylor dies that were for sale here awhile back too ... then came to my senses. Although I still kick myself in the butt now and then for not getting them (they were a great deal!!) & I saw both of them right after they were posted

Buying dies and ammunition for guns that you don't own and then buying the rifle is bad. But what's worse, is picking up once fired cases at a public range and then buying the gun to go with that........................... Guilty.
