OK! I have had it I cant not have an AR anymore. I have been doing lots of looking and research and want to build my own. I am starting with the lower and the question I have is, will AR10 and AR15 lowers swap? I am wanting a 22" 6.5wssm upper from Dtech to start. A .450 Bushmaster upper will hopefully soon follow. These will be hunting rigs for hogs and coyotes mostly. The Dallas Market Hall gun show is here this weekend and I may see one I cant live without (thank you tax money) so plans always change. So many others I want..... the 410ga looked fun, a .204, a SASS styled rig in .338 federal..... grin

NOPE, two completely differant animals.
The AR10 is the 308 family.

Welcome to the Dark side

Since I'm in Dallas right now I'll respond. Sorry but the AR10 and AR15 uppers aren't interchangeable. The good news is that lowers are pretty easy to build not a lot of special tools, but the uppers are a diffrent story. Good luck with your build, I've only done one lower but it was fun and gives a lot of satisfaction when you shoot one of those nasty Texas hogs with it. So you'll have to decide which way you want to go AR10 or AR15 for a lower and then you'll be limited to one or the other upper. Again good luck. CH

There are much and more knowledgeable people on here than me, but i think they are not interchangeable also there is NO turning back.....

Most of what I want is in the AR15 family. I know the AR10 was made for the .308 and the 15 for .223 still it doesn't hurt to ask. as for truly building it myself the hand guards on the upper and a trigger was the only thing I plan to mess with. Have an image of what I want in my head I need to start somewhere.

As bea said, build one of each. It is a fun project and really nothing to it if you take your time and have the proper tools. The AR platform is really unlimited as to what you can build, from mild to wild. First and foremost to me is function and intended use.The two trigger systems I like and use are the RRA two stage and the Armalite two stage both very nice triggers.
Good luck and let us know what you decide.

There is one called the Cobb MCR that has the ability to swap the front of the lower for different caliber magazines and uppers.

Holy crud.... thats a true useable lower if its any count. Wonder if changing modules makes it any less accurate.

And you could get a semi with real stopping power.....

Would like to read some more real reports.

Bet they ain't cheap.

I've heard of the cobb name but can't recall if that was good or bad.

But as mentioned, make sure if you dive in, you aren't sucked in for calibers that are all AR15 lower capable....

Cobb was purchased by Bushmaster and not much has come about since that purchase. A shame, I had a real interest in the MCR 300 in a 264 win mag.

It does seem to be an innovative cocept. I have had several different .223s and decided to go th 6.8mm route this time. I am waiting on a Wilson Lightweight Hunter to arrive.

I think they have too much invested in the ACR design from Magpul to mess with the Cobb now.
