I seem to recall that there is a service to ship firearms to an outfitter that would preclude the hassle of carrying them on the flight over. Can anyone give more information to this request. Thank you all in advance. MTG

Can't see how this would be possible;just to many possible senarios to go wrong;unless being exported for a dealer.
It's just not that hard to deal with it....IMO.

I have dealt with it as such. Our last trip to RSA was mostly uneventful albeit the hassle of the SAP at each arrival/departure at every airport. Our firearms and luggage were lost upon traveling back to the states. It took some intense phoning to finally recover all items 11 days after arriving home. I have heard that there is such a service but have no pertinet information. Perhaps will have to contact SCI to pose this inquiry.

Not that I'm aware of, you may be thinking of one of the firearms clearance firms like riflepermits.com they help with your SAPS before you arrive.
Having shipped quite of bit of stuff to Africa over the years, there is no way I would even consider it.

Perhaps I may have to weather the storm again upon our next trip to Africa. Our experience with the SAP is not a pleasant one. SCI knows of no services.

As others have mentioned, there are services to ease the SAP process. Cheap for the hassle avoided. Even free from the Afton House (a guest house) if you overnight there, I've been told.

If you don't want to hassle with traveling with firearms, some of the outfitters have good rifles available for clients use.

Yes, renting a firearm would be an option. Altho', after handloading for better than 30 yrs. I trust no ones loads, factory or otherwise, other than my own. I tailor the loads to my rifles/handguns. I will bite the bullet and do the permit system, via the Afton House, with the SAP and handle all myself. I could not bring myself to hunt with an unfamiliar firearm. We stayed at the Afton House but were charged for the permit. Worth the price. The Afton House "Meet and Greet" is a very well coordinated system that we were pleased to use on our last trip to RSA. Thanks all for your valued input.

MTGunner, I used Air 2000. They were great, well worth the money to get through customs. They were waiting for me when I got off the plane, and the paperwork is pre-filled out (you do it ahead of time and send it to them.) They are at: http://www.hunterssupport.com/There are several other services who do the same thing-I would use Air 2000 again and never give it a second thought. Manny
