I seriously doubt that unless you are talking about shooting people inside an automoble. I've seen a few Bad Guys put down by the old .38 Special Super-Vel load. None of them survivied. While it probably does loose some of it's energy penetrating clothing, etc., it's far better than the standard loads with any kind of 158 gr. bullet. You can, for instance, rely on it to shoot through a leather jacket, something that can be relied on to stop the standard 158 gr. loads. E I'm refering to the old 158 gr., standard velocity loads used by many PD's for years. Clocking 870 fps., even from a 6 inch gun, a heavy leather jacket, such as used by typical motor cycle cops to protect from "road rash" injuries when they went down, would, in fact, do that. I've known, quite well a few guys that actually had them work. No, I didn't see the actual shooting, if that's what you want to know. One of these guys insisted on wearing his old LAPD jacket in spite it's not being an offical uniform item. He finally got threatend with a suspension for wearing his. So he did, reluctantly, give it up. E https://www.24hourcampfire.com/ubbth...72088/all/38_Spec_dual_purpose_ammo_reco Little did I know that I have owned a Bullet proof vest for Years..

so 870fps or less in 158gr .357 and your leather jacket will do the deed?
I'm gonna have to church up my security six loads a little, I guess......

Is suede bulletproof too? If it is then I have not one, but TWO bulletproof jackets! I must be special.

Based on that info, I have bullet proof shoes and boots.

Don't forget your belt, for that small but vital gap between your road rash jacket and your chaps! LOL!

This is a very funny set of posts coming from a guy that swears up and down that both the .38 Special and the 9mm are worthless as street rounds. I've tried to present some examples of the limits some of these loads have and all you can do is claim this is not possibly so even though you've never, apparently, tested this for yourself. But, if that's what you have to do to get some humor in your life, be my guest. E

Would you be willing to wear the leather jacket while we tested the ability of a 158 38 special to penetrate through the jacket?

If E will send me his leather jacket, I'll throw it over a post and shoot it with a 2" J Frame with some 158 grain round nose lead bullets on top of 2.8 grains of Bullseye.
They ought to be slow enough to bounce off.

Thats funny. I have a real bullet proof vest and still don't want be shot with a 22 rimfire much less a 158 gain bullet.
I guess E should tell that to Jim Cirillo I think he killed a couple guys with that very load.

The best way to be bullet proof is to shoot first, shoot fast, and shoot more accurately . . . . . that way the bullets from the other guy are inconsequential.

I guess after having seen photos of a PD shooting my old agency had when a 110gr .38 failed to break the maxilla and were sticking out of the skin....balisticly nothing suprises me anymore but the trouble is it is not always consisent.
Hunt hard, kill clean, waste nothing and offer no apologies.
