What is the difference between these two primers, CCI 400s and 450s? Which do you prefer and why? What makes one better over the other?
I'll be using these in a .223 with RL 15 and the 63gr sierra and possibly the 55gr Horn in the near future.
I've already put a good load together with the 400s and I have some 450s to try if they're worth it.
thanks guys
Brett

The 400 is standard, the 450 is magnum, but I'm guessing you already read that on the box. The mag of course is a skosh hotter....I know many who reccomend it for ball type powders... I have used both with both ball and extruded powders, and seen no difference to speak of.. I have shot all mine in bolt guns..maybe the semi-auto guys can chime in with different results..(?) Other my have varying mileage so Im kinda anxious to hear their experiences..

According to my records over the years I have had better luck in the accuracy department with the CCI 450 primers in the 223, 222 and 222Mag. That being said there may be some personal bias in that statment. To be honest I have seen little difference between primers in the 223 over the years and have been able to find good loads with any I have used. If I had a good load with a one primer and wasn't experiencing any problems I would use it. But it sure wouldn't keep me from experimenting with other components.

450 has a thicker cup and will handle higher pressures.
