It's an Ideal tool, and does everything, including cast the bullets. It's for a 30-30 and casts a 150 gr bullet. I think it's neat! Decaps, primes, seats bullet, etc.

Must be old, because all the newer ones don't have the bullet cast on the front.

Must be old, because all the newer ones don't have the bullet cast on the front. +1 I used to see them in the late 1940's and 1950's, but haven't seen one like that since then; one that has the bullet casting cavity. I do see them at gun shows, without the bullet casting part in front.

The new ones are by Lyman and will take a number of the special dies...in otherwords, they are a die "handle." Without the bullet mould. This one is specialized and won't take anything but the one built-in die.
I think it neck sizes, mostly, but the die can be screwed in a bit and might bump back the shoulder. I suppose it's mostly a one-gun tool.

Interesting tool for the "man on the go" when most folks only owned one deer rifle anyway. After starting with a Lee Loader I used to use a Lyman 310 tool for .38 and .357. Basically an evolution of the Ideal tool but with interchangeable dies. http://www.lymanproducts.com/lyman/dies/lyman-310-tool.php
Gunnery, gunnery, gunnery. Hit the target, all else is twaddle!

It was poorly designed and under engineered.
Have you noted that it does not incorporate a bottle opener?

Makes one wonder if there's a market for the bullet cast type again, for straightwalled cartridges.
Perhaps with changeable molds...

I have one like it in .303 Savage. Have not tried to use it to load any ammo but I did cast a few bullets with it just out of curiosity. Mine casts a 150 grain round nose plain base bullet.I wish Lyman would make the new ones with the ability to accept mold blocks. That would be the ultimate in portable reloading tools but the metal handles do get mighty hot if you cast more than a handful of bullets.

They will work..I wouldn't say they are the greatest thing though. Takes a very heavy pair of leather gloves if you want decent bullets. They just barely neck size, can't think of the other problems at the moment. Neat tools to have though.
