Hello, I'm wanting to load 150 gr, 30-30 bullets in my '06 and run them at about 2400 fps. I know I can do that with SR4759, but does anyone have good data, using IMR 4198??
Thanks!.... Ken

33 grains of IMR 4198 under a 150 fp 30-30 bullet gave me @2500 fps out of an old Remington rifle.

Hi Vic, That's my situation, here in Western Oregon,, and for jump-shooting/trail walking deer, I'll be using a 125 gr, flat-nosed, hollow pt. 30-30 bullet in the '06, moving `2100 fps, for shots 15-50yds. This 150gr load, with a 30-30 round-nosed bullet I'm asking for at ~2400 fps, is actually slightly hotter than the standard 30-30 load, which would take you out far beyond 100yds.
Good luck,, Ken
Thank you all for your help, so far!!

People have been leaving data on a similar post I have under "Big Game Rifles" in the Reloading Section, at the lower part of the Forum List.

So, after input from members on the Reloading: Big Game Rifles post, I've increased velocities slightly and loaded the 125gr Flat, Hollow Pts to 2200+ fps and the 150 Flat Pts to 2500 fps.
Thanks all!... Ken

That load puts you smack dab in .307 winchester territory.

For what it is worth, or anyone interested...
I disassembled one of Remington's Managed Recoil rounds in 30/06...It had a 125 grain Corelokt bullet, and the charge was 36 grains of IMR 4198...
an older friend liked shooting them, but wanted a little heavier bullet ( a 150 grainer..) so he bought a box, and I pulled the bullet, uniformed the charge to be more consistent, and we seated 150 grain Ballistic Tips back on top instead...

And off he went, and probably slew things with aplomb.

A proposal: Judging from the number of views of several posts, just for the 30.06, on reduced loads of different grained bullets, it would appear that there's quite an interest in "softer"/shorter range loads for .30 cal, not just the '06, and perhaps for other calibers.
Chuck Hawks has published reduced loads and I've received wonderful support on this site from numerous members. I'm wondering... proposing,, and wondering how to get this going... I'm proposing that "The Writers", write an article, or get a post going, specifically for low velocity/soft rounds/close range loads for the .30 caliber, as well as other cals. Perhaps the article could have links to postings, or articles for specific calibers... I say calibers, because there's not much difference 'tween my .308 and 30.06 capabilities of running the same bullets at similar velocities. Perhaps the same is true for other .30 cals and even different cals. Maybe "Reduced Loads" needs its own category??
So, I'm hoping for a good article/post, which consolidates and makes info more accessible. I will be posting this as well on other posts I'm on... What do y'all think?
Take care,,, Ken
