It is the 7/12x32 that I have. What they are is a very decent 7x binocular. Use the setting there 75-80% of the time. Yes they are light and very easy to carry.
Simply said, there is not enough glass in a 32mm instrument for the 12x to be as good as the 7x. If you get them with the idea that the 7x will work for closer in and the 12x for further away, you are likely in for a let down. The 12x actually is a pretty decent setting and is frankly better than I first thought it might be. For example, it is remarkable easy to hand hold at 12 for the small size. It works best acting in concert with the 7x. For example, say you find some deer in a thicket a couple of long rifle shots away. The 7x may well show only deer, but the 12x may put antlers on one. Do not get this with the idea that you are buying a "Little Big Eyes". Its detail at 12 is displayed MUCH better a little closer. Now it is not unuseful at longer ranges, it is just not real good stretching into "way out yonder". Don't have the expectation that it will let you seperate a 160 class buck reliably from one a little smaller. It MIGHT, but don't rely on it to do so.
