To answer the original question with a good set of dies I could wrap it all up with a well built 375 H&H. Not much for prairie dogs I suppose but I eat what I shoot and I'm not big on rats.

Whatever a 7x57 can do a 270 can do better.

I'd hate to be a dead horse. They really take a beating around here.

brinky72,
Actually, I have shot a bunch of prairie dogs with a .375 H&H, mostly using the 220-grain flat-point Hornady at about 2000 fps. It works really well, in fact the splatter-factor is about like a .22-250.
But even full-house loads will kill them.

We need a sticky tutorial on how to use the search function.

Mice to Moose....I'll just take one, the 30-06.
I'd like a 22LR for fun practice.
And if we're really talking hunting all over the place, I'd have to include a 50 cal muzzleloader, as there are special seasons for that which I enjoy hunting, and I think in most places that only allow slug shotguns they also let muzzleloaders in.

FIRST RIFLE - Small Game to Coyotes .223 Rem - Federal Premium 55 grain Nosler Ballistic Tip sighted in to hit 1/2" above the bull at 100 yards scope with B&C reticle
SECOND RIFLE - Deer, Mountain Goats, Antelope, Bighorns, Hogs, Exotics 30-06 - Federal Premium 150 grain Sierra Gameking BTSP sighted in to hit 2" above the bull at 100 yards AND (same rifle) SECOND RIFLE - Elk, Black Bear, Caribou 30-06 - Federal Premium HE 180 grain NP sighted in to hit 1" above the bull at 100 yards THIRD RIFLE - Moose, Grizzlies, Bison, Musk Ox .338 Win Mag - Federal Premium HE 250 grain NP sighted in to hit 1.5" above the bull at 100 yards
This battery will kill anything from prairie dogs to grizzlies.
It's probably unreasonable to hope that this will be the last time we see this thread.

Why do we only need 3 guns???
What I have is not necessarily what I want, but here it goes
22lr CZ 452 American with 4-12x40mm simple duplex scope - sighted at 50yds and using the post as BDC I can hold dead on to 100yds.
7mm Rem Mag Savage 110 with 3-9x40mm Zeiss Conquest scope. Federal Premium 160 NP hit 2.5" high at 100yds. Working on my handloads with 150gr NP
12ga O/U shotgun - can be loaded with any type of size shot and slugs, maybe for the big beasties a pump would be better.
I agree that the search function does produce more than enough info... but I guess that asking produces higher post counts and immediate gratification (not really)

22 LR - Browning take-down semi-auto with 4x scope 7mm Rem Mag 12 guage shotgun
Worked fine for me for over 20 years.
Coyote Hunter - NRA Patriot Life, NRA Whittington Center Life, GOA, DAD - and I VOTE!
No, I'm not a Ruger bigot - just an unabashed fan of their revolvers, M77's and #1's.
A good .30-06 is a 99% solution.

Sigh...today we need to remember a LOT of good men (and some women) have died over the past couple centuries or so, so that we have the right to own, shoot and enjoy as many firearms as we like...among many other blessings.
Gonna shoot some of my modest collection today, by cracky!

i don't see the .22 as an included rifle in this list. it's like a 12 gauge, everyone has to have one.
now for hunting everything else:
.22-250 6.5x55 .30-06
