I'm thinking about installing a red dot scope of some sort on my Browning BPS turkey gun. It currently has the tru-glo sighting system that came on the gun (NWTF version). What are the pros and cons of these scopes and do you have any suggestions?

Burris Fastfire 2 is a good reflex sight. Better FOV than tube style red dots and weighs much less. Put the dot on his head and the tom is dead Doesn't matter where your head is, if you can see the dot, that's where it hits. loder

I have a 2x tru glo red dot and like it a bunch, just have to remember that it is 2x. It has held up well with a Mossy 835 ulti-mag w/Nitro Co.'s 3.5" loads. Fragged/scrammbled both a BSA and a Tasco earlier with the gun but both companies recommend theirs for regular 3" loads, not 3.5" loads. I use the 2x interchangeably with my muzzleloader.
I will have a look at what Reloader 7rm just suggested.

I had a Burris Speed Bead, and have a Nikon. They are good and if I wanted another red dot, I would pick the Burris Speed Bead over the Nikon for the lower profile. Having said that, I also have (2) Burris Fastfires. That is a better mouse trap (IMHO)

I have a shotgun so I have no need for a 30-06.....

If you do go with a scope style sight, make sure you build up your stock enough to adjust your cheek weld. I tried a red dot a couple of years ago. I missed 2 birds that season, not to mention beating the hell out of my cheek with those 2 oz loads because I couldn't get my head down on the gun and still see through the sight. I ended up going back to iron sights. YMMV
They say everything happens for a reason. For me that reason is usually because I've made some bad decisions that I need to pay for.

If you get one make it a good one, a few guys I know have gone the way of the 19.99 Walmart junk and there 12 guage turkey guns just wreck em.
I personaly dont see the need for one if you already have rifle sights, less is more on a huntin rig that you shoot 40 yards IMO but to each his own.

I have a scope on my gun simply because I just change out the barrel from my deer shotgun. All I cared about was the simple cross-hairs, when I picked out my scope. Red dot doesn't really do it for me.

However, a set of fiber optic sights will do the job nicely. It's not hard to hit a stationary target at less than 50 yards with a shotgun. I'm sure that red dots and scopes work fine, but I don't see the improvement to justify the increased cost, weight and complexity. I'd sight in those fiber optic sights that are on there now and go hunting.
