Found a Ruger 44 carbine. condition is poor as blueing is worn and stock is cracked along the mag. tube area (belly of the gun, about 6" long). Also at the rear, on top behind the receiver, it appears to may be cracked also. Can't feel it and it may not be but a scratch. Gun looks to have been shot some. But I can't figure what would be a good price for it. Can one purchase a aftermarket stock to replace the busted original stock? All I know about these is don't shoot lead bullets, just jacketed. Going to use it for plinking and hog hunting.
Den-den

The only one I've ever fired wouldn't shoot a full tube od PMC FMJ ammo without jamming! I am hoping the new Deerfield is better. Once they've been out awhile I will consider one of those!
Mike

ROTR, Lots of the old Ruger carbines have not had the bolt cleaned properly and they jam like mad. I have seen several with this problem and once the gunk is removed from the action, they shoot like mad. TM

Some mornings, it just does not feel worth it to chew through the straps!~

In "Excellent" condition it should go for around $350.00. Based on your description of the condition I wouldn't even consider anything over $200.00.
2D

Everyone raves about Ruger's customer service. Now may be a good time to try them out. Who knows, If you bought the rifle and sent it back to the factory, you may end up with a new stock and a blueing job.

Right now I'm gonna pass on it. I got too many extra's I need for my other guns. I thank you for the responses. Maybe later I'll get one.
Den-Den
